Coverage is never a constant. Some carriers are better in one area but fall off in another. When they talk about "having the biggest network" or "the most coverage" it's a national average, not an area-specific thing. Here in the wilds of northern New Jersey, Sprint has at least as good coverage as AT&T, if not better. YMMV.

The Tour is going to be a "world phone" like the 8830 or Storm. On the 8830 the GSM card slot was Europe-only and could not be enabled for North American use. The Storm, however, could indeed be used for North American GSM. It remains to be seen if the Tour will be usable in North America on GSM but I would assume so. The most recent world phone model, the Storm, makes this possible and I really don't see RIM backsliding on this. It will be up to Sprint really on whether or not they allow it.

What I don't understand is, I have a friend who use to drive OTR (Over The Road) as well as myself and we would keep in contact with each other. He was (and still) on Sprint, I was on AT&T. He couldn't keep a signal to save his life! I mean even in a big city! I had the same problems when I was with Sprint and that was the reason for switching to AT&T. Now according to this article, Sprint has the most coverage area? That might be true to a certain point, but sounds a little shady to someone who use to be with Sprint.

Also, is it implied that this phone could actually be used here in the US by way of "quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM"?
