Bplay now offers PayPal for mobile purchases

Comments

Bplay

Bplay is the leading third party vendor of games and themes for BlackBerry. Recently, they updated their purchasing systems to include the Click and Buy payment option. Click and Buy could be considered the European equivalent of Paypal.

Now, Bplay offers PayPal, but only on mobile purchases. Apparently, offering PayPal on desktop isn’t as easy to implement.

As App World continues to offer only one payment option, it is quickly getting outpaced by every other vendor that can offer multiple payment solutions.

New BlackBerry theme from Elecite – Ulterior

Comments

ulterior-elecite-blackberry-theme

There have been a few simple themes from Elecite recently, in particular Noble and Urban. This time, Elecite have gone and made an Alienware theme called Ulterior.

Ulterior is crafted with glowing “ribs” just like the real deal, which are actually fully functional and represent the power of your Battery and Signal meters. There are 2 buttons next to the time control the hatch. You can use the right button to open the hatch and reveal a handful of customizable icons. Closing it gives you quick access to your Messages, Media, and Calendar (and no those cannot be changed).

Ulterior is definitely the theme to impress your friends with if you got a BlackBerry 8900, 9000, or 9500 and $6.99.

Mike Lazaridis’ predictions for smartphone market and infrastructure

Comments

TECH RIM

Mike Lazaridis, speaking at the Canadian Telecom Summit yesterday, said that the BlackBerry devices and smartphones that are Web-enabled are rapidly becoming the “center of how you get things done.”

Of course, all BlackBerry Cool readers already know that we’re at the cutting edge of technology and productivity, but the prediction is going to make some brick and mortar organizations rethink their direction.

Among Mike’s predictions is that the North American market for smartphones will more than double in the next few years. “There is a conversion happening. More and more consumers are not just trading up to a newer phone, they’re trading up to smartphones. I call this the smartphone revolution and it’s occurring right now.”

Rogers’ CEO Nadir Mohamed could not agree more. In the opening keynote address, he said that cutting-edge devices are redefining how consumers view Internet and use it. “The notion of Internet at home [or] Internet at the office is changing to: your Internet, wherever you are,” he said. “It’s very powerful.” Mr. Mohamed estimated by 2014 more than three million Canadians will use smartphones such as the BlackBerry.

With the market shifting towards smartphones, and these devices becoming increasingly more powerful, we’re seeing a progressive evolution towards Every Laptop Left Behind.

What to expect from an LTE BlackBerry device

Comments

At the Canadian Telecom Summit yesterday the major Canadian carriers said they’re on board for LTE and are making preparations for a full-scale rollout of the technology.

This is great news considering BlackBerry devices are upgrading at a rate which will be hindered if the carriers don’t keep up and update the network infrastructure. At the conference, Mike Lazaridis said “Consumption is going to continue to grow. This, in my opinion, is one of the most important problems facing the industry in the near future.”

Carriers, such as Verizon and Rogers, have significantly invested in LTE technology and we’ll hopefully be seeing it sometime in the year 2011.

With the launch of the first LTE networks, you can rest assured that RIM will have an LTE BlackBerry ready to use the 4G equivalent speeds and technology. Now the question is: what would an LTE BlackBerry device look like?
