There’s a rumor going around that Verizon will be announcing the BlackBerry Tour tomorrow with a release date. This could be in response to the fact that Sprint has officially confirmed the device, and Verizon doesn’t want to lose any customers switching for the device.

Currently, the sign up page for the device is live so if you register to get a preorder notice, they’ll surely email you tomorrow to confirm this rumor is true or not.

Cross your fingers!

Verizon ends Buy One Get One promotion – Storm and Curve reduced

Comments

verizon-blackberry-bogo

Verizon had an incredibly successful Buy One Get One promotion for BlackBerry devices but sadly it’s coming to an end. While today may be the official end date, Verizon will honor the BOGO promo through June 27th due to active advertising.

On the bright side, while the BOGO promotion is finished, BlackBerry devices that were under the BOGO promotion will be reduced by $50. This means great savings on the Curve and Storm.

How to write your second BlackBerry application – Lesson 2: Mail API, Invoke API, Menu

In the first tutorial you learned how to set up the BlackBerry JDK (Java Development Kit) and how to create a simple User Interface with Buttons, Labels and Edit Fields.

In this lesson, you’ll learn how one can program, create and compose email messages as well as how to add a MenuItem to your application.

1. You open up the JDE (Java Development Environment) and load your Workspace file. Go to File -> Recent Workspaces to load up the Lections.jdw file.
2. Now right-click on Lections.jdw and select Create new Project
3. Name it Lection_2
4. Now right-click on Lection_2 and select Add file to Project
5. Select both files HelloWorld.java and Lesson2Screen.java to import them into the project

Backup and restore to your media card with PhoneBAKup: Giveaways!

phonebakup

PhoneBAKup looks like a pretty useful app for saving time and energy making backups of your important files. The app lets you schedule daily, weekly or monthly backups for your BlackBerry OTA. With each backup, you can save your device’s data including the Address Book, Task, Calendar and MemoList.

The data is emailed to an email address of your choosing, so if you have a lot of data, make sure you have an appropriate data plan. Also, consider making a separate email address for your backups so it doesn’t get mixed up with your other emails and can be quickly accessed.

PhoneBAKup normally costs $19.90 with no subscriptions or annual fees. There is also a free trial available.

We’re also giving away 20 free copies of PhoneBAKup. To win, comment and tell us what the last app you purchased was.

[UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for participating in the contest. Entries are closed and winners will be notified]

This application is compatible with the BlackBerry Pearl (8100,8110,8120), Pearl Flip (8200,8220), Curve (8300,8310,8320), 8700 C/G/R, 8707 G/V, 8800, 8820, 8830, Curve 8900, Bold 9000 and the Storm 9500.

toy with me

Toy With Me makes vibrators and other adult entertainment accessories and they’ve recently made an app that turns your BlackBerry into a vibrator. The app is called BlackBerry Vibe 101 and it controls the vibration functions on your device by setting them to low, medium or high. There’s also modes such as constant, wave or tickle.

I seriously don’t recommend anyone actually use this app because it’s just not hygienic. Although, people have been known to do weirder things with inanimate objects.

Full details surrounding eCom’s MasterCard app for BlackBerry

ecom_blackberry_payments

This is some really exciting news about a particular side of BlackBerry that I’ve found is a long time coming: credit card payments from your device.

Well it seems we’re very close to be able to make credit card fund transfers from the device. eCom have been working on a BlackBerry payment solution which they have been testing successfully over the past few weeks. Although several additional features will be added over time, the basic application can be described as follows:

  • Allows eCOM MasterCard Cardholder to register their card to their BlackBerry device via the ECOM website and after simple registration and acceptance of terms and conditions on the device itself, the ECOM icon shows on the menu screen of the Blackberry.
  • Safely and securely, via the RIM push technology and not text or email messaging, the ECOM application allows the transfer of funds from card to card using the card account number (not the actual card number), within minutes of completing the transaction, regardless of the global location of the sender or recipient. Initial login requires the CID (card identification number) of the cardholder for secure access.
  • The icon on the Blackberry changes colour from the default black to blue when funds have been received and sent. The icon on the BB of the recipient will change to the blue with a white arrow next to it pointing up denoting a receipt of funds. The icon of the senders BB will also turn blue and the arrow points down denoting the sending of funds (or having made a payment somewhere).
  • When the cursor of the BB is positioned over the ECOM icon on the BB, basic payment/receipt information is displayed. More detailed account information is displayed when the user clicks on the icon and enters their CID to access their account.
