BlackBerry gets blogged 5,000 times per day

Social media has been a huge help for smartphone manufacturers. The blogosphere can be a better PR tool than the largest firms in New York, assuming you have something good to spread. The Hatorade can also spread quickly.

To determine what the Internet thinks of your brand, you have to sift through blog posts, YouTube comments, Facebook wall scribbles, message boards and Twitter “tweets.”

That’s where we look to new software called Sysomos, a social media monitoring tool born out of research at the University of Toronto. There is already some interesting data from the software.

“A brand like BlackBerry has, on average, more than 5,000 posts on a single day … no human can flip through (that),” said Nilesh Bansal, co-founder of Sysomos, a social media monitoring tool born out of research at the University of Toronto.

At 5,000 posts per day, RIM is getting an incredible amount of coverage on their devices. Personally, I’d like to know what percentage of that coverage is ReTweets and post scrapes.

BMO Harris Private Banking predicts success for RIM

Comments

Paul Taylor, chief investment officer of BMO Harris Private Banking, has great things to say about investing in Research in Motion Ltd.

This is unusual given that Taylor has been shifting money out of “defensive” areas such as telecommunications, utilities and consumer staples and into “cyclical” industries, including energy, base metals, technology and consumer discretionary.

The reason he’s sticking with RIM?

“These are still early days for the conversion from ‘dumb phones’ to smart-phones,” Taylor said. “A lot of people are concerned about [iPhone maker] Apple, but there’s plenty of space for both Research In Motion and Apple to be tremendously successful.”

The general idea here is that the smartphone market isn’t as simple as a pie and everyone is trying to get their piece. The pie is ever expanding and there is room for several major smartphone players.

[UPDATE: RapidShare has taken down the link for now.]

Personally, I don’t like downloading unofficial OS versions because of what they can do to your device, but this time I’m going for it.

It simply takes too long to get a software update so I’m going to be getting OS 5.0.0.100 for my Curve 8900. This latest update will hopefully fix the bugs found in OS 5.0.0.93 found earlier.

Download OS 5.0.0.100 for your BlackBerry Curve 8900.

Download OS 5.0.0.100 for your BlackBerry Bold.
