Today I received my Sprint BlackBerry Tour and it’s amazing. But, you’re not here for a review, you’re here because you want to unlock your Sprint BlackBerry Tour. Here’s what you do. Thanks to my friend at CIO.com, Al Sacco, I knew the steps to unlocking it. Fortunately, the good folks at Sprint will walk you through the process as well. Here’s what I did to unlock the SIM slot on the Sprint BlackBerry Tour.
1. Call Sprint International Support – (817) 698-4199, prompt #2
2. Ask them if they’d kindly unlock your SIM slot on your BlackBerry Tour
3. Turn off your wireless network connection on the Tour (yes, you’ll have to call from another phone)
4. Click on Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card
5. Type MEPD
6. Type MEP2
7. The representative should give you a 16-digit code
8. Thank the representative for their help
9. Reboot your phone and you’re ready to go
There you have it! It took me about 5 minutes to get my phone unlocked. I tested my Sprint BlackBerry Tour with a T-Mobile SIM card and was able to access the web, use BlackBerry Messenger and send and receive messages.

used the “live chat” feature on http://www.sprint.com/international. the representative on the chat was able to give me the unlock code in a few minutes. Quick and easy!
Not new to the BlackBerry world, just new to Unlocking one:
This may seem like a dumb question but…..
If I get the Tour unlocked to be able to use the SIM CARD does that mean
1) Now that its unlocked I ONLY have the option use the Tour with a SIM Card
2) I’m can still use it for Sprint but I can switch WHENEVER I Want to a SIM CARD
or
3) PHADE, what the hell are you talking about?
oh cool, i thought the Tour only worked for international GSM bands, i’m assuming your T-Mobile SIM is connecting to a north america GSM band? very good to know

I did this, but forgot to turn off the radio before entering in the code…is this going to mess anything up? thanks
I’m surprised they just hand you the unlock code without harassing you.
Just get an 8830 and be done with it. The Sprint version comes unlocked out of the box, I’ve used mine internationally (on 3 different continents other than North America) and domestically (US) for 2 years now without issue or need to contact any support representatives. Read your instruction manual or go to http://www.blackberryforums.com, you’d be amazed with what you can learn…
I have a question I unlocked my Sprint tour and I am using both Sprint and T-mobile service on my phone and I was just wondering if I needed to have blackberry internet service with both carriers or just with one carrier?
Would I be able to unlock the Blackberry Tour if the ESN is bad? Thanks.
Im in Germany and i bought sprint blackberry tour from ebay how can it be unlocked?

Does the esn have to be clean ?
I did the online chat and after I gave the lady my imei (dec) number she said that it was already unlocked (I just got the phone yesterday).
Thanks
I called Sprint and the rep unlocked my BB 9630 phone. I was asked if I wanted to have my SIM card unlocked. What’s my response? I thought unlocking the phone would unlock the sim card. Please advise.
I bought my Sprint BB 9630 and it was already completely unlocked. However, my brother-in-law’s was not. But we got his phone unlocked with no problems. They’ll give you some harassment if you recently bought the phone or if you haven’t been a Sprint customer for a while.
However, just simply explain that you do a lot of international travel where Sprint International is not available (such as Fiji, Tonga, etc.) and they’ll take care of you.
That’s why they charge a premium to get the phone and why they have an early termination fee.
Keep in mind, when you unlock your phone, apps such as “YouCall” (which is the iPhone like voice mail program) will not work because it will not be able to configure to the network properly!
Also, if you plan on using it on t-mobile, rogers, at&t, etc. you have to change the network setting to 2G only. Although most cell phone companies offer 3g networks, the networks are NOT inter-compatible!
*If they ask you if you want your sim-card unlocked, that’s so it can be used on the international network. Tell them you would like the SIM Card “Security Disabled” and for the network to be disabled (under “options>advanced options>SIM Card. And they’ll clearly know what you’re asking. And if they ask you why, simply state the above “international travel” reason, and they’ll stop asking.
**Also, keep in mind, when you contact them, they’ll notate this on your account records!
this was a GREAT help – Sprint’s store people in the US completely screwed up my setup, and these guys had it fixed in under 5 minutes.

So can the unlocked blackberry tour 9630 sim card be able to work on unlocked Iphone as I’m currently using sprint as service? Couldn’t use before b/c not GSM. However, I dont want to buy a blackberry just to get a sim card. Any suggestions on the easiest way to acquire sprint sim card as the 1 being used in the blackberry tour?
I’m also having problems after MEPD > MEP2 > nothing happens.
