Analysts maintain buy given upcoming BlackBerry devices

While many bloggers have lamented the fact that RIM keeps releasing devices, it seems to be keeping shareholders happy.

The constant release of devices frustrates the BlackBerry community in that the devices have been mostly hybrids of preexisting devices, without making any significant leaps in the technology or offerings.

Last year, RIM released four devices in the seven months that precede the fall/Christmas consumer blitz. Before Christmas 2009, we will see the launch of the Tour 9630, Curve 8520, Onyx (fall?) and Storm 2 (November 2009?).

At RIM’s last conference call, there was concern over the fact that enterprise subscribers had declined compared to previous quarters. In light of this, analysts such as UBS Securities’ Phillip Huang and Maynard Um say they are “still anticipating eventual enterprise acceleration.” They added, “We maintain our view that enterprise acceleration is likely to occur given its captive base, limited competition, depletion of Blackberries in “IT closets,” and limited IT budgets for switching costs.” That being said, the firm is maintaining a “buy” rating on RIM’s stock with a long-term target of $90.

Walmart selling T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8520 for $48.88 on 2 year

It looks like the BlackBerry Curve 8520 will start off at a very reasonable rate at Walmart. The device will sell for $48.88 with a two year T-Mobile service contract. T-Mobile stores will be selling the device for $129.99, therefore charging their own customers a fee of $100 for using the retail outlet.

Starting at around $50 on a 2 year contract is a fairly clear indication that we’ll see this device being offered for free within the year. Not a bad device for that price.

Zeemote now available for BlackBerry – let the games begin!

Zeemote+console-quality games+Pico Projector+8900 = An incredible mobile gaming experience.

We first got a look at the Zeemote over a year ago when we were writing about them on QuicklyBored and then at BBDC 2008, they brought it to the BlackBerry world. The Zeemote is an interesting addition to the world of BlackBerry gaming, a market that is still young but has a great deal of potential.

Now officially out of beta testing and ready for the BlackBerry community, Zeemote has some great implications for not only gaming but for other random BlackBerry uses that we’ve been testing here around the office. One example of this is with vPost. You can set vPost with the Zeemote so that you have a remote trigger for your camera. This makes for some interesting live action pics.

In terms of gaming, Zeemote fills in the gap where the BlackBerry lacks. If you’re an avid BlackBerry gamer, you know that when the game starts getting difficult, the keyboard on the device makes it impossible. You need the dexterity and precision of a brain surgeon. The Zeemote takes this stress away and lets you enjoy your games.

The Zeemote will be available in ShopBlackBerry.com this summer.

RIM releases new tools for developers creating web apps

RIM have announced new and improved tools for developing web applications for BlackBerry. The new tools include the BlackBerry Web Development Plug-in for Eclipse and the BlackBerry Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio version 1.2.

The BlackBerry Web Development Plug-in for Eclipse, will allow developers to create web applications and content more easily and in a familiar Eclipse 3.4 environment. This plug-in opens up more rich internet applications using AJAX, Silverlight, PHP, ASP, Ruby on Rails, JSP, and Python.

The BlackBerry Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio version 1.2, allows developers to create web apps and content whithin Visual Studio 2008. This is another tool that is going to bring more developers into the fold, allowing them to make apps running AJAX and ASP.Net.

With these tools we’ll hopefully see an increase in the number of web apps in App World. Web apps are a great way to experience content that you regularly visit on the web, but you want easy access to on your device. Get coding developers!
