The German ninja at benezblog has leaked the upcoming BlackBerry Desktop Manager which is rumored to be bundled with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 aka the BlackBerry Onyx.
Desktop Manager 5.0.1.18 comes with a new feature that allows you to easily set up your BlackBerry as a modem so you can tether it to your laptop. It seems to be working but some users are having issues connecting. This is leaked software so all the kinks haven’t been worked out. If you’re unable to connect, you may still have to use an existing tethering solution such as TetherBerry.
Included with the rumor is a leaked copy of Desktop Manager 5.0.1.16, which includes the modem feature.
Try it out for yourself. Are you able to tether your laptop and your BlackBerry?

HedoneDesign have a nice theme up called Digital. The icons look really slick and you can get 8 additional wallpapers in the Expansion Pack.
Higher models (8900, 9000, 9500 and 9600 series) can toggle the homescreen’s navigation panel. By closing the panel, you can enjoy the background wallpaper in all its splendor. This theme also allows for quick navigation to regularly used items such as the Clock, Options and Manage Network Connections.
The new Digital from HedoneDesign is made for the 8300, 8350, 8500, 8700, 8800, 8900, 9000, 9500 and 9600 BlackBerry devices. You can purchase it for $6.99.

Elecite have a new theme called Focus. It features 10 HDR nature photos that circulate in the background each hour, much like the Urban theme.
The homescreen is the most unique part of this theme, with a circular arrangement of 8 customizable icons. Overall, this theme looks like it would be best for Storm users, but trackball users will love it too. Also, combining nature and technology always makes for a nice Ying and Yang.
Focus is available for $6.99 for the BlackBerry Storm, Bold, 8900 Curve, 96xx Tour, 8520 and even the 8350i.

Our buddy Fabian just put out his latest app, AddresSave, which automatically takes contact info from your email and adds it to your address book.
As you probably know, there are other apps out there that do something similar such as Gwabbit. One thing I like about AddresSave, that isn’t included in Gwabbit, is the option to set a “block” list. With this option, you avoid unnecessary entries.
As this is a new application, it would be interesting to see how well it can sniff out redundancies over a long period of usage.
AddresSave is available for $1.49 until September 4th (normally $2.99).

Slacker has updated their software for the rest of the BlackBerry users to match the goodies seen on the Storm! One of the best features included in this latest update is that the battery life has been greatly improved while streaming music.
Here is a breakdown of the features you’ll find in the latest update:
- Improved battery life up to 2x (over previous versions) while streaming
- Improved usability enhancements to the interface, including a “Home” button to quickly access the station list
- Added ability to toggle the explicit content filter (on/off) from the main menu
- Addressed an issue where pausing a song for an extended period of time did not properly resume playback
- Addressed an issue where phone calls or message alerts would prevent playback from resuming properly for some listeners

The developer community around the iPhone is fairly different from that of the BlackBerry developer community in that iPhone developers have OpenGL at their disposal, allowing them to create visually rich applications, as well as as the marketplace and demographics are slightly different. While the BlackBerry Storm is capable of running OpenGL hardware-wise, we have yet to see the API’s unlocked.
Lets assume for a moment, and this might be a crazy assumption, that BlackBerry had OpenGL API’s (possibly with the Storm 2?), and that any iPhone app you see could be ported to BlackBerry. For this to be true, we would also need to see device memory increase, as well as perhaps a built-in compass.
With those assumptions, and there may be a few more, what applications have you seen for iPhone, that you would like for BlackBerry? Or rather, what are your favorite iPhone apps that aren’t available for BlackBerry?
Here are some that I would like to see, and they’re mostly for entertainment. I’m sure there are a ton of apps out there in various categories so share what you find.
