I found this great article in the forums that shouldn’t go unnoticed. It’s a little old but hopefully someone out there gets some use from it. The how to will allow you to download the free apps from BlackBerry App World, even though RIM hasn’t officially launched in your country.
1. Download the App World .ZIP file.
2. Unzip it to your desktop
3. Copy the files net_rim_bb_appworld.cod, net_rim_bb_appworld_resource_en.cod and JavaLoader.exe to the following folder depending on your Windows OS:
- 3.1 In Windows Vista “C:\Users\(Your User)
3.2 In Windows XP “C:\DocumentsandSettings\(Your User)
4. Start CMD (Windows Key + R and then type CMD)
5. Plug-in your BlackBerry
6. Type: javaloader -u load net_rim_bb_appworld_resource_en.cod
once done type next one:
7- Type: javaloader -u load net_rim_bb_appworld.cod
Your device will now reboot and you will have App World on your device. This has been tested on the Curve 8900 and the Bold, so make sure to comment whether it works for you.
BlackBerry Storm users:
1. Download the App World .Zip file.
2. Unzip it to your desktop
3. Run the Blackberry Desktop Manager
4. Select Application Loader
5. Select Add / Remove Applications
6. Select Browse and look at your desktop for the file “appworld.alx” and select it.
7. Click Next and then Finish.

Wow, finally got it to work after like 10 tries, 3 different error messages, and 3 different computers. Ended up working on Windows XP running in Parallel 3.0. Leave it to a Mac to get the job done

I download the AppWorld software to my blackberry and when I download something a message come on and tells me I have to have a web browsing service plan on my blanckberry I have the 8350I with boostberry is on the $50 for moth plan and dot let me download anything please help me.

I have a storm and downloaded the Appworld interface easily. However, when I try to install any app from Appworld I get the fwg msg: “Sorry your device does not meet the requirements that are needed to support Blackberry App World.” Please advise, thx.

Does NOT work with Bold 5.0.0.238 – at least not for me. After the icon finally appeared after several reboots and reinstalls, it threw some error.

I have 8900 with OS v5.0.0.238..
After I complete the activity.. The device does not restart.. Secondly even if I restart the Blackberry manually, I am not able to find the app. icon on my Blackberry
it used to work on my bold with os 4.6.0.282 but now it’s doesn’t work at all at the new os 5.0.0.190/238 (i tried both) but it’s still works like a charm on my wife bb curve 8320 with os 4.5.0.161 and already upgrade it to the newest appworld 1.0.0.20.
Any help how to install it on bold with os 5 ? help will be much appreciate. Thanks guys

When running App World the first time it takes ages about 5 minutes to load up the end user agreement. Once that’s done it loads app world fast. Installing apps works great!

It worked great on my Bold for a few days then it suddenly disappeared.
I re-installed it tonight but in doing so the device automatically restarted after each command line.

Hi Carl,
You need to download the package to your computer and follow the instructions. You cannot run the package from your BlackBerry.

i guess the initial bb port is blocked by the network provider(MTN Nigeria) on my 2nd bb powered by Zain, App world was installed successfully but when i tried to run it it gave another error msg: Error starting net_rim_bb_appworld: Symbol ‘ThemeManager.getActiveTheme’ not found

It sounds like the BB desktop software wasn’t running, make sure that it is running and that the BB is connected to it before you start the process and try again.
