The BlackBerry Ninja over at Benezblog has posted leaked photos of the BlackBerry Storm 2 9520 aka The BlackBerry Odin.

So far, the device is rumored to have:

  • OS 5.0.0.138 and it’s running platform 4.3.0.28.
  • WiFi – awesome!
  • SurePress has been replaced by a new touchscreen technology that is apparently much better.
  • 3.2MP camera
  • 360×480 capacitive touchscreen display
  • UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz)
  • Quad-band GSM and CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A

This is beginning to look like a great device but it’s too early to say much about it. While the Storm 1 got a lot of bad press on the Internet, it was one of the least returned devices from Verizon. BlackBerry users want a good touchscreen device and this could be the king of touchscreen devices.

You mention CDMA in the details but the About screen shot does not mention it and isn’t xx20 reserved for GSM only devices?

the 9520 is for other carriers, for verizon , etc it is the 9550

Is there a chance it will come to Sprint?

Is this phone going to be a VZ exclusive once again? I would get a touchscreen berry, but I’m not switching carriers just to do that.

@CreativeSkills – Of course there isn’t a set date yet, but all signs are pointing towards the holiday season. Last year, the Storm launched around late November. I’m guessing the product team is aiming at around a similar time frame but any number of technicalities could push it back.

Man, I am drooling over this new Storm 2. This one in the pics is with Vodofone and they have both GSM and CDMA networks. So this may be a GSM-only version?

I’m on AT&T with my work and can’t change carriers even if I wanted to. Does anyone know if there will be a carrier in Canada or Europe that would have a GSM-only version I could get unlocked? Would it work on 3G networks here in the US?

I think RIM needs more than a hardware update to keep it interesting. How about improving the OS? BB OS is feeling a bit dated these days.

The key question here is whether they will improve the memory management so the darn thing won’t lag and freeze up the way the Storm 1 does. Everyone I know with a Storm right now has trouble with it constantly requiring a QuickPull or battery pull. I’m seriously thinking of switching to another model.

Anyone think there’s any chance that a 5 MP camera will make it into the final version, or is it going to remain at 3.2 MP? I’m waiting for it, it’ll be my first Blackberry but wasn’t sure if the hardware was going to change or remain the same as it is so far.

I have a storm and since I have it it has only frozen once, its not true that is freezes all the time GREAT PHONE

@the saint. I have only had my Storm 3 days and it DOES freeze, many times a day. I am also an iPhone user and the Storm is no iPhone. Although iPhone does freeze, not more than every few weeks. My Storm is frozen at least every other time I use it. OS definitely needs tweaing, as does device firmware. So, I am a side by side everyday Storm and iPhone user and right now, Storm is inferior to iPhone in every way, especially price. (I bought both locked but unsubsidized.)

  18. 18 REVOLUTION

The Storm is by far the worst phone I’ve ever owned. It froze on me about 5 mins. after getting it. I know some people say its great but I know a handful of people that own one or have owned one. Everyone of them hate it. Now I’m stuck with this peice of crap. 90% of the time i try to make a phone call or anwser one, all it does is goes into to think mode or something. If it does happen to ring when someone calls its only 1 or 2 rings before it goes to voicemall. I’ve ran updates and it has helped nothing. Anyways, I am just venting. I could go on for awhile with all of its problems but it will really do me now good. I would wait a month or two and see how the Storm 2 is doing before running out and buying one. Verizon has new Android phone coming out that will probably be way better than any storm……Good luck with your POS Storm.
