Verizon BlackBerry 9550 aka Storm 2 – What Do You Want To Know?

Verizon Storm 2 - 9550

Although it seems like an eternity, the BlackBerry Storm has only been for sale for almost a year.  RIM went back and reworked with mechanics of their touch screen and cooked up a new(er) operating system.

Now, we at BlackBerryCool.com have gotten our hands on a pre-released 9550.  Yes, the screen rebound is much better, thanks to the shortened travel distance, and we’re enjoying the more responsive keyboard.  Both of these aspects have been significantly improved.

Instead of writing a review of a pre-release device, we’d like to know what burning questions you have about the device.  We’ll work to answer them.  Again, considering that this is a pre-release device, there are still bugs, quirks and gremlins clearly running wild.

So drop us a line on what you’d like to know and we’ll do our best to answer your questions!

As a Storm 1 owner, I assumed I would get better at typing on the touch screen much like I did on my iPod Touch, but after nearly a year I still am struggling to type out emails on my Storm 1.

I’ve seen the YouTube clip of the Storm 2′s typing capabilities and it not only seems fast, the predictive text seems very accurate. How does it seem to work for you?

Is the touch screen multi-touch like the iphone?

Is there a proximity sensor? If not, is there some mechanism to disable to screen while on a call WITHOUT having to manually press the “lock” button? Lastly, RELEASE DATE?!?!

    Is the OS more stable?

I have the Storm and my two biggest peeves with it are the battery life (as others have asked) and the bugginess of the OS (lots of crashes, freezes, slow-downs, and stalls).

For features, all I want incrementally is wifi.

Now let’s see Verizon offer a way for us Storm 1 owners to upgrade at a reduced rate. Otherwise they’ll see us leaving Verizon in droves.

    1. Are there themes that have buttons that don’t touch? The solid wall of buttons gives me claustrophobia.

    2. Please give us a better browser before next summer. Why do we have Opera Mini instead of Opera Mobile?

    3. Any chance we’ll get a non-corded charger setup like the Pre? That is just so nice.

    4. Any way we can load the WebOS instead? :D

    5. Why can’t they get the thickness down - I mean, it’s not like it has a real keyboard.

    6. Will the initial price point match that of the TP2? I mean, a few weeks after introduction, we’re already at $200. And the pre, after only 5 months is free after rebate. Why don’t they just start giving the handsets away?

How come they didn’t opt for a higher resolution screen or camera in the Storm 2? I would have liked to have seen a 800 x 480 screen with a 5 megapixel camera. When the “average” consumer compares the Storm 1 and Storm 2, there won’t see an improvement in the specs so when the Storm 2 comes out, they’ll wonder why they should pay more for the Storm 2 when the Storm 1 was on sale for $50.

How is the application memory? Is there more of it? What are some of the reasons trading up for the new Storm? Is it worth the money? I love my Storm 9530.

Application memory! How much and can it run apps from the SD card without some 3rd party hack? That, in my opinion, is the biggest shortcoming of the first Storm!

My main two problems with my 9530 is the fact that it crashes a lot I really hope that is improved in the 9550 and two I hate the small amount of app memory I would love to be able to run apps from the memory card or at least be able to run them off the 1gb internal memory I have never used it on my phone
