Now that the new BlackBerry Messenger is out, it’s worth taking the time to put some BlackBerry OS 5 downloads in one spot. Many of the leaked versions of OS 5 have been missing the new BBM, but now that it’s released, you may want to get OS 5 for your device and have the whole package.
Keep in mind these are leaked OS links and the official version is much safer for your BlackBerry. We’re putting these links here so you can preview what will soon be officially released for your device. The official release of OS 5 features:
- More responsive experience and includes usability and visual enhancements such as inertial scrolling, spin boxes that make it easier to set dates and times, gradient shading on buttons and more use of animation.
- Typing accuracy and selection have been significantly refined.
- BlackBerry Browser improved with faster JavaScript and CSS processing as well as support for Gears and BlackBerry Widgets
Customers running BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5 will gain the ability to:
- Set follow-up Flags on the handset like they can in Microsoft® Office Outlook®
- Manage Microsoft Exchange email folders (Add, Rename, Move, Delete) on the handset
- Access remote files shares (Windows Shares); Save, View, Edit, and Email documents from remote file shares
- Forward appointments and view calendar attachments on the handset
- Benefit from wireless sync improvements for Contacts, including sync for multiple contact folders, personal Distribution Lists and contacts in Public/Shared folders

Download OS 5.0.0.238 for BlackBerry Curve 8520.
The new OS 5 is a great update that you must have, but as soon as the official version is available for download, you should definitely reinstall. The above download links tend to give you the odd error and reboot, but that’s the price we pay as early adopters.
If these links break by the time you see this post, there are always more around the Internet. Feel free to share your findings in this thread.

The latest leak for the Storm is 5.0.0.230 and I’ve found it to be exceptionally stable and it’s never rebooted or given me any errors.
5.0.0.238 for the bold has already been leaked a while ago. #just sayin’
I’ve had 9000M_PBr5.0.0_rel366_PL5.2.0.14_A5.0.0.238 for the bold for a couple weeks, but it doesn’t seem to want to install for some reason.
Don’t download 5.0.0.154 for Storm! DISASTER!! download 5.0.0.230 instead! google is you friend.
Many third party applications is not working with this platform.
Such as Windowslive MSN messenger, Y!messenger, GoogleMap, etc.
And I need third party applications.
FYI: The latest leaked OS 5 for the 8900 is 5.0.0.238, which has been fairly stable.
When will it be available for 8310??
Anyone got a working link for 5.0.0.238 on the 8900? Cheers.
5.00.238 is the latest BOLD OS5. I havent used 190 but I hear 238 is far better.
hey i have workin one here!! leak 5.0.0.238

Whilst tempted to obtain (If I can) 5.0.0.238 for my 8900, would rather wait until O2 UK release an official version.
What’s the typical delay from a sort of RTM, which 5.0 appears to be, and the carriers getting it published?
Cheers
When will the offical 5.0 update be available?
i feel an official OS5.0 roll-out will come by the end of this month following the launch of Storm2 (oct 21 or 25) since that phone uses OS5.0
Fuerthermore…a BIS2.9 will probably come with more stuff before the end of the year (following their 3 months cycle).
What would people love from RIMM to include? the most wanted additions are:
FOR BIS
- Google 2way-sync for email, tasks, contacts and calendar (multiple apps domains or gmail accounts) push powered.
- 2way sync for hotmail push powered
FOR THE DEVICES
- Compass
- SIP and/or Skype
FOR DE DEVICE MANAGER while on Bluetooth or USB
- Linux support
- 2way Remote desktop for one registered device each
- Appworld apps download to PC first, then install to device
- Send/Receive BBMessenger and SMS through PC
Love you guys!
I have twice the plunge and installed leaked version 5 on my Bold. The first 5.0.0.90 was horrible, it was unstable the Bold would spontaneously reboot and many applications would not operate properly on it.
A week or so back, I thought what the heck, lets try 5.0.0.238. It installed perfectly, and most of my applications worked perfectly. I had to install BlackBerry Messenger 5 from AppWorld as the one in the 5.0.0.238 for some reason insisted on removing Messenger 5 as it was running on 4.6.
Overall my Bold is much snappier and slicker to use. The media apps in particular are nicer and threaded text messaging is awesome (but I am sure is going to make any average BlackBerry user’s text message volume go up – so make sure you have an unlimited bundle).
I did a quick overview with some screen grabs of this OS on my Blog if anyone is interested.
I downloaded the OS on my bold last night and its still fairly buggy. The install process did not go smoothly, including error messages and frighteningly long initial start ups that made me think my phone has been bricked. After restoring the backup logs on the device, including text history, I cannot SMS a contact that has text history. It takes me to the thread text section, however the compose section at the bottom of the screen is missing entirely, and there are no options in the menu to bring it back.
I also lost ALL my apps, including blackberry apps like the app store and BBM 5.0
Viigo took me 3 installs to even make work, and now its got a scrolling bug.
I lost all signal this morning, it was an easy fix Manage connections>turn all connections off>restore connections. That will be annoying if it happens often.
So if you are looking for a smooth day to day user experience, wait for the official release. That being said, the new features in the OS are awesome. I might have tried to live with the bugs, but the SMS issue is too big of a deal to live with. I’ll probably attempt to downgrade.
I saw one reply that stated third party apps (ie. google maps) does not work with the leaked OS 5. Is this for certain? If so, what are thoughts on the official release working in tandem with third party apps?
How do i install the update on my storm if the link sends me to megaupload??
Installed 5.00.238 on my 8900 and apart from losing BBM 5.0 and WLM on upgrade (Had to re-download), only nuance I have is I cannot get Viigo to work.
Have removed/reinstallaed/re-downloaded several times.
Otherwise, improved, mails look slick, follow up flags
Anyone got a link to a site which still has a download of 5.0.0.230 for the Storm 9500 ? the link appears to have been removed from the Mega Upload site..
In answet to Nicks question, enter in the validation code on the Mega Upload site and then choose Download. This will save the .exe for your BB upgrade.
You then need to install this on the same machine where your desktop manager is installed..
