I know this is kind of late in the game but just wanted to post my thoughts as a longtime Bb user. I went from using a Motorola RAZR to the Bb Pearl when it first came out. I liked the Pearl as a phone but the internet (MediaNet) really sucked. As soon as the Bold 9000 came out I switched to that and loved it. Everything about it! Except for one little thing. The trackball. I had to replace the damn thing 3 times. When the 9700 came out with the trackPAD, I switched as soon as my account was upgradeable. I really loved this “new improved” model. The trackpad was an amazing improvement to the phone overall. But… Only one little thing stood in the way of making it the perfect phone; the onboard memory. I know many people have posted as to why it was astonishingly diminished from 1 GB to 256 MBs but not to my satisfaction. If you could download your apps to the SD card, no problem. If you could store all your contacts on the SD card, no problem. If you could store all the items in your memo pad on the SD card, no problem. But such is not the case. I’ve downloaded 15 apps that I use pretty much all the time and deleted the one’s that came pre-loaded on the phone and am down to about 60 MB of memory left which really bogs down everything.
I can’t wait until the Motorola Atrix 4g comes out next month!

I have had the Bold 9000 for 6 months and hate it! It is good at first when you get it but after a while if you update it with the newer software it constantly crashes and freezes, and turns off just before low battery. Also after i got the phone 2 weeks on, the bluetooth broke and hasn’t worked since! I am dissapointed becuase this phone wasn’t cheap either. I would die for an iPhone and would deal for a 9700, either way… don’t buy a 9000!

Blackberry Phones were created to be BIG and Smart ! why the hell they manufactured the 9700 ! its Not a blackberry phone its any other phone u can use with upgraded specifications . So if you want a small tiny mobile go for other mobile brand .

this is very useful. however, i have been contemplating purchases both of these phones although cannot decide for the life of me which one to go for! i love trackball but my main worry is how long it will last on a reliability term, i also love the design of the bold 9000. But as stated in this review, the 9700 is shaping up to be a much better, modernised phone. Has anyone got any advice for me please?
