"There are a lot of BlackBerry users out there that like to send email and SMS while driving, so what should they do?"

That's easy: while texting/emailing, they should drive off a very high cliff into a deep body of water, preemptively accelerating the inevitable collisions they would have inevitably caused anyway, in a way which hurts only themselves, and which prevents them from doing any further harm to to others in future.

@Caspan - Read your post. I totally agree. A verbal password on a hands-free device would go a long way to meeting security concerns and keeping your "hands free" as is the point with these accessories.

BTW - I'm loving your "RIM should have thought of this first!" posts. Your Bold is turning into a FrankenBerry with all the mods.

Maybe someone should make a bluetooth device that simply shuts off your blackberry radio and silences all notifications, so you're never tempted to take a call, or look at that SMS or email you just got. It's easier than shutting off your berry every time you get in your car.

It's funny that you posted this.. I just finished writing a Blog about the use of hands free devices and the problem with the current security model of BlackBerry phones. Now that we are being forced to use hands free devices those of us with security enabled on our devices like self locking devices are at a cross road. Do we dare pick up our device to unlock it so we can use it hands free?

You can visit my blog entry here that talks more about how we could get a work around to this but we need RIMs help to integrate the idea.
