As usual, CrackBerry Kevin overshadows a new device launch with video of an unreleased BlackBerry. Gotta love it. The BlackBerry Tour2 9650, codenamed essex, is nothing spectacular, and is just the Tour 9630 with a trackpad and WiFi.
This must be incredibly frustrating for those who bought the Tour 9630. It just goes to show that you pay a high price for being an early adopter. If I had to blame someone for this, it would be the carriers. I’m sure RIM would love to have released the Tour with WiFi, but the greedy carriers knew that early adopters burn through significantly more data than your average user, and withholding WiFi is a quick way to make cash. Now that the early adopters have been tapped, carriers are comfortable releasing the WiFi version for everyone else.
No word on pricing or a release date yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

The strange thing is how that doesn’t make sense from Verizon’s POV. If I’m at home using my Blackberry to check e-mail, I’m wasting Verizon’s network bandwidth when I could very well just be using my own home WiFi. I’m obviously going to try to connect with WiFi when I can; it’s faster. And Verizon doesn’t win by keeping me from WiFi; I already pay an Unlimited charge and they get to keep bandwidth usage down when I don’t use their network.
I’m with Gil on this one. I don’t understand how carriers win much if anything on this. Unless you’re talking about new subscribers coming over to Sprint or Verizon simply for the Tour.
Perhaps they should release the Tour2 as the Tour1.5 since it has nothing spectacular to add.
Sorry for being so ignorant about WIFI. What’s the big deal? If you have a verizon plan, you automatically get billed for a data plan. I heard AT&T would be doing the same. So i’m not sure where the savings would come in.
Will this phone have themes to it? I love how the bold can have themes, it would be great if this phone could. It would be the perfect phone for me.
Does anyone know if the Tour 2 is any better then the Curve 2? If it’s not much better I’ll just get the Curve 2 since it’s already available. I currently have the Curve 8330 and would like the addition of Wi-Fi. The track pad looks good too.
The Curve 2 has a subpar 2.0 megapixel camera. The Tour, and presumably, the Tour 2 should have a 3.2 mp camera. It makes a difference in my opinion.
I know that Sprint will begin carrying the Blackberry Tour2, but does anyone know if Verizon will also do this as well? I am debating on whether or not I should wait to get the Blackberry Tour2 if it comes to Verizon.
Can anybody find out when the tour2 is coming out and let me know.

That is the dumbest thing you could possibly say. Wireless carriers prefer you use wifi since it means you’re not racking up use on their network, but still paying the unlimited pricing. Next time do a review, and keep your idiotic opinions out of it.
