Fixes for the BlackBerry OS 5 themes bug

We had some great responses from our post regarding the BlackBerry OS 5 themes bug. There are a couple of fixes that were provided in the comments that are worth reposting.

From BlackBerry Cool reader Jon:

This issue can be resolved, as posted on crackberry.com forums by wiseguy77:
“step1: obviously load the theme step2: do not use the theme wall paper change it! this is where the issue lies. step3: after changing your wall paper to something other than the theme default go to options>themes>open the little blue box to the right of the active theme. now select the layou option and change the row settings from 2 rows to one row then back to two with out leaving the theme screen, and wala your theme will not longer show the white borders when in landscape mode only bummer is that you have to repeat step 3 each time you change themes or reboot you phone as long as the wallpaper is not the theme default i guarantee you this will work.”

Another solution provided by BlackBerry Cool reader Nathan says:

1. In landscape mode, hit blackberry button, select options and change wallpaper from the theme default
2. Back in options, select layout, change to Today mode, save and close out.
3. Go back to options, select layout and change back to 2 rows.

Theme should now work properly until next reboot

    Thanks. Just spent an hour on phone with VZW. They did not know about this. Who would have thought. I had to reload the OS over again to correct which it didn’t,

    yeah that’s what happened to my phone too but I tried that chnging rows and background, it worked. But whn I selected 1 then changed it back to 2 rows it showed d white bars on the front screen. So I selected today and saved it after selecting 1 row and saving it then I changed it back to 2 rows. Now it works fine with the background I chose for the front screen with no white bars n e where. I wonder whn they are going to fix d problem. I the to repeat d process after rebooting my phne every so often

    Did not work for me. 5.0, 9530, 3g theme from musicsblackberry. Tried every trick thus far, no change.

    BETTER FIX!

    I played with this for a good while. What I found for the 3g theme is that no matter what settings are used, or which steps above are done, it still shows white banding in landscape.

    In my pictures folder, I have one image that is nothing but black space. So after trying multiple fixes, I went with a change to the wallpaper to this image. IT WORKED!

    Not sure if this applies to other themes, but perhaps a full black image of ‘nothing’ selected for wallpaper will solve this….at least for now.

    i have a storm and these fixes work great! you must however follow the directions to the t. for any of you out there with the 3g and 3gs theme that really want the theme to look original and don’t want a random pic in the background, all you have to do is make a solid black pic to use for your background. it works perfectly. if any of you can’t find a pic that is sized right or can’t make a true black pic yourself, then email me at flyn2low1085@comcast.net and i will send you a true black pic that is sized right via email. thanks to those who figured out a temporary fix for the 5.0 theme issue, keep up the great work!

One of the main reasons I downloaded this theme was for the picture it came with in portrait. This sucks. As soon as my contract is up, I am getting as far away from the Storm as possible. This phone has been nothing but grief since I got it, which sucks cause it has the potential to be an awesome phone. :(
