telus

Samano, a Howardforums.com contributor has noted that the BlackBerry Storm is no longer available on the Telus website. There is a lot of speculation as to when the Storm 2 will be released on Telus and Verizon. When old devices get quietly discontinued, a big launch is soon to follow.

Has anybody heard anything from their Telus or Verison rep? When do you think the Storm 2 is coming?

Official Twitter client for BlackBerry coming soon

RIM is working on an in-house Twitter client for BlackBerry, expected to be released mid-November. First party apps have the advantage of total integration with the OS. This upcoming twitter client sounds very well crafted with push delivery of Tweets and notifications showing unread tweets on the app’s home screen icon.

Expect all the standard twitter client features of friends timeline, viewing profiles, viewing photos, manage/view who you follow, direct messages, and replies. Some of the advanced functions include the ability to tweet photos from your camera or from your memory card.

Comments? Will you be downloading the RIM built twitter app or will you be sticking with your favorite third party Twitter client?

RIM has released a version of it’s BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac. RIM has relied on acquired third party syncing software for a few years now, with some features simply not present and others obviously not as well-crafted as the native PC BlackBerry Desktop Software. I had been running XP (albeit very slowly) through emulation on the Mac OS just to deliver all the features of the PC utility so this comes as very welcome news.
Here are some of the features:

  • Sync iTunes® playlists
  • Sync personal info like contacts
  • Sync tasks and appointments
  • Install new software, games, and more
  • Keep your BlackBerry software up to date
  • Create partial or full system backups

Ruby programming language goes mobile

Comments

ruby

Ruby is a dynamic, open source programming language with a focus on simplicity and productivity. It has an elegant syntax that is natural to read and easy to write.

Rhomobile is an open source platform to make it easy for developers to mobilize enterprise applications to run natively on all available smartphone devices. Rhomobile offers several components that work together to allow programmers to create rich client native mobile applications. These mobile applications work with data locally (i.e. even when disconnected) and take advantage of capabilities of specific mobile devices (such PIM data access, audio, video, camera, phone dialer, GPS, and accelerometer).

The core of Rhomobile’s offerings is the Rhodes application framework. This is a Ruby-based “microframework” that runs locally on all major device operating systems. Rhodes applications use another component called RhoSync to synchronize data locally to the device. The components of Rhomobile are intended to be much simpler than similar infrastructure that has appeared in the “mobile enablement” in the past: simpler to program to and simpler for end users to use.

Adam Blum, CEO of Rhomobile has written a blog entry detailing the Rhodes smartphone development framework’s implementation of Ruby for every major smartphone operating system as well as the benefits of leveraging Ruby for native smartphone app development.

Aerize WiFiX: Enforce WiFi Usage released

Aerize has just released WiFiX for BlackBerry. WiFiX is a bit more powerful than it seems; it can reroute connections to and from any connection. For example: WiFi <> BES <> BIS <> TCP/IP <> WAP, so it can actually enable usage of many programs without the need for a BlackBerry Data connection (BES/BIS). Since it can import and export settings it is highly configurable for the future.

We are actually using Google Maps and a bunch of other apps on BlackBerry with only WAP data connections. Furthermore, it will enable WiFi when the user has NO mobile data plan at all.

Try or Buy Aerize WiFiX for $9.99
