BlackBerry OS 5.0.0.314 for the Bold and Curve 8900

Ronen over at BerryReview got a tip about the latest download links for OS 5.0.0.314. Make sure to get them fast as they tend to get ripped from Rapidshare fast.

The standard caveat applies: if you don’t know what you’re doing, stay away from these leaked OS versions. Back up your device too.

If these get ripped, we would appreciate posting a mirror link. Also, let us know if you find any bugs or this negatively affects your device.

BabyGO! featured in BlackBerry App World

Getting featured in App World is one of the best things that can happen to your app. It gives you great exposure and users can find your application without clicking through to categories.

BabyGO! was first seen on BlackBerry Cool and it’s an application like no other. The app locks down the device so you can give it to your child and let them play with it. It has an element of education to it, as the app says the letters that your kid presses, allowing them to absorb the alphabet at a young age.

What would be interesting to measure, is the number of downloads that occur by word-of-mouth. While being featured on App World can result in a surge of downloads from users hitting App World, there is also surely an effect from friends recommending the application once they have tried it. BabyGO! seems like the type of application that would be especially helped by the word-of-mouth factor as parents are constantly sharing advice and parenting tips.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 video shows off the most unimpressive features

In a video released by AT&T, we get a look at the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The video goes on to describe a little about the device hardware, as well as basic BlackBerry functionality that we are all very aware of. But what about the most important part of a device: the software?

As RIM continues to release devices, there is relatively little that differentiates them. This year in particular, it is all about changing the form factor and feature set to play with pricing and different target markets. While the Storm 2 is probably the biggest evolution for BlackBerry this year, it’s still only going to be as good of a device as the developers dictate it to be.

So what does AT&T want you to know about the new 9700? Well apparently software isn’t important to them.

CB forums have had 2 leaked pieces of information that point to the BlackBerry Storm 2 being launched by Verizon on October 28th. The first evidence of a 28th launch is an internal PDF with the date in it. The 2nd piece of evidence the above snapped photo of the Verizon intranet blog also showing the 28th.

While the Storm 2 was rumored to not have passed Verizon’s technical acceptance program right away, it seems all of this is over with and the device is coming. We’ll keep you updated on this as more details come forth.

Pixelated Plus, a fun game for BlackBerry, has been updated to support the Curve 8900 and the upcoming Bold 9700.

Playing this game is easy. All you have to do is change the colors of pixels on the screen until the screen is a single solid color. The ultimate goal is to do this in as few moves as possible.

Killarney School principal Dave Devin is behind bars for using his BlackBerry too much. His bail is set at $1,200 and law enforcement officials will hold him until this money is raised.

Sorry but I couldn’t help posting this. It’s actually a fund raiser on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society called Jail ‘n’ Bail where community members voluntarily “jail” themselves and raise bail money for cancer. Dave Devin was “arrested” for using his BlackBerry too much and was released less than an hour later. Phew!
