This article is absolute BS.
To summarize…some random guy mentioned the age old BS that MS could takeover RIM, because it was mearly his stupid opinion and he probably thought “yeah, that would be a good idea to suggest, and it might make me sound like a speculative big-shot”, simply because he didnt realize it had been said time and time again.
It means nothing, carries no weight, and is absolutely pointless to bring up if there is no evidence (which there isnt).

Just like Nortel, RIM don’t have a future. If it is taken over by MSFT, RIM should be happy. And Canadians should be happen that is franchis is managed by the most successful company in the world.

Not sure if this would happen or not as far it being strategically a match for MS…RIM handset + BES is kind of a soup-to-nuts solution for MS to pick up and market as part of its own mobile portfolio (not to mention all of the other email platforms that RIM supports but that Exchange competes with ferociously).

Ditching the wide market of Windows Mobile for Blackberry OS would be an odd move as would gutting (java) BB OS and shoe-horning Windows Mobile into the handset.

From the other angle though, the scuttlebutt for *years* has been that RIM has quietly been open to MS buying them regardless of what might get said publicly.

What makes more sense for RIM is to acquire Palm. The WebOS will help fix and align their business more effectively with the consumer market. They can keep a couple key designers and engineers etc. and not further bloat their business. They will also gain many patents from years of R&D. Tons more reasons why this makes sense, including Palm pre hardware improvement, and product distribution to name two.
