Nice summary of the history of mobile app delivery stores. It's interesting to hear the dev's point of view. HOWEVER, you leave me with a cold chill up my spine when you talk of the carriers being more involved.

"billed in more creative ways,"

This is just downright terrifying. There's already the middlemen of App store and app world etc. Then you've got the data fees. It sickens me to think of the methods of rape the carriers' marketing depts would take on my wallet if they could get away with it. They'd probably charge for the data downloaded, take a piece of the app cost, charge a subscription to use it, and then have more fees for additional features within the app itself. And all that would be for something as basic as a fart app.
