BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.55 official and ready for download

If you’re using the latest version of BBM, you’re most likely running version 5.0.0.33. If you’re interested in trying the latest BBM, head over to mobile.blackberry.com from your BlackBerry browser.

The most notable difference here is that SMS is built into the BBM experience. Contacts that are in your BBM list, who send you a text message, will have their threaded SMS conversation in the “Chats” section of BBM. This may not be new to those who are on top of the BBM leaks, but it’s the first I’ve noticed it. Other than that, it’s a lot of maintenance work.

    The SMS being a part of bbm is in the 5.0.0.33 version. Its not new.

    @Danny – Strange. I’m using 5.0.0.33 and I never noticed it until I got .55.

    Question…. Does this update help any with the super slow picture transfer??? That was a huge FAIL!!!! Idk why they changed the way it was from the original bbm, I’m just saying the 5.0 version takes forever to downnload the pics if at all.

    What happen to the nick status failure.. Haven’t improved that issue yet.. I thought this Was a patch to fix the problem ..

    The picture transfer is not so slow as the version before 5.0.0.55 … and you’ve got an extra option now, you can see the PREVIEW.

    Some other differences:

    - conversation style has an extra option (new: Stripes);
    - voicenotes you can automatically accept.

    Yes, that picture downloading change was the worst!! What ever happened to VIEW? That way, if you don’t want it, you don’t have to save it!!! I like the option there, now your forced to save it.

    Tell me sumn….. if u download it from the mobile.blackberry website, will it delete all ur contacts forcing u to add them back? Wen u download new versions from bb help or app world, it automatically syncs ur contacts.

    my curve 8320 is currently running on OS v4.5.0.81 and BBM v.5.0.0.8.. do i really need to upgrade my BBM to v5.0.0.55? and if i do, will it erase all my BBM contacts and chat history?

    DON’T INSTALL IT! Ever since I installed it yesterday, my BB has been very slow to respond to button presses. It makes the phone practically useless!
