Update BlackBerry Messenger Now to Fix Issues

The BlackBerry outage that has been affecting users across North America was caused by BBM and it’s crucial that everyone download the latest version of BBM (5.0.0.57) to correct the issue.

Download the latest BBM from www.blackberry.com/messenger.

According to an official statement from RIM:

RIM Statement – December 23rd – A service interruption occurred Tuesday that affected BlackBerry customers in the Americas. Message delivery was delayed or intermittent during the service interruption. Phone service and SMS services on BlackBerry smartphones were unaffected. Root cause is currently under review, but based on preliminary analysis, it currently appears that the issue stemmed from a flaw in two recently released versions of BlackBerry Messenger (versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) that caused an unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure.

RIM has taken corrective action to restore service. RIM has also provided a new version of BlackBerry Messenger (version 5.0.0.57) and is encouraging anyone who downloaded or upgraded BlackBerry Messenger since December 14th to upgrade to this latest version which resolves the issue. RIM continues to monitor its systems to maintain normal service levels and apologizes for any inconvenience to customers.

RIM has got to pick up its socks and not let these outages continue to happen. It has to be the worst public relations disaster for a company that prides itself on reliability. Hopefully this will change in the New Year.

    .57 deleted my bbm all together and after 5 attempts and two quickpulls later, it was installed and resynced with my email backup for contacts. What a pain. Get it together RIM.

    I’ve been trying to download it.. but it keeps failing as well. seems like too many people are trying to connect to it.
    I could not access my email or contact anyone on my bbm yesterday which was a pain since I do most of my business on my phone. I would have to hate to switch to another phone cough:iphone:cough if this keeps happening.

    update to my earlier post. App world download won’t work. if you go through the link above on your bb browser it seems to work fine.

    hated the other version; file/pic transfers were a pain & expired if not answered w/in a certain amt. of time – also disliked the fact that I had to save the file in order to review it. I was wondering Tuesday why my message that I had sent that morning via bbm was still pending by that evening. Hope the update corrected these problms.

    i just recently purchsed a BB storm, and have version 5.0.0.57 installed. The problem i am having is that my workers have bb8830 withthe same version of meesengerand are able to receive my messages but i am unable to receive theirs. my brother has a storm and is able to communucate with them and receive their messages as well.Just need to know as to why i can not receive their messages and they are able to receive mine…i tried to uninstall and install messenger a few times and still no luck…Please help.

    When i go onto my messages on my blackberry, my fone automatically sends messages with out me touching the trackball! I have changed the sensitivity on the track ball to 40. everything works fine, just when i click onto my messages! thats when it just starts to send random messages to my contacts! Please HELP!!!!!
