During the Q3 Fiscal 2010 Conference Call, Jim Balsillie announced a partnership with China Telecom to distribute BlackBerry across China. China Telecom is the 3rd largest mobile provider in the People’s Republic of China. The network supports 3G and has over 43 million mobile subscribers. This is a huge distribution deal for RIM and it’s crucial for their growth in China. More details and a launch plan to come.
021Systems have a fun animated BlackBerry theme in the BlackBerry Cool Store. The coolest part of this theme is that you can control the animated snow in the background, and when you lock your device Santa flies across the screen on his sled.
“Some customers may still experience delays as email queues are processed,” RIM said in an emailed statement. “RIM is continuing to investigate the cause of the issue and apologizes for any inconvenience.”
According to a Sprint spokeswoman, Crystal Davis, the outage was caused when something went awry during a maintenance check. She goes on to say the outage began at 3AM and even though users were experiencing delays in receiving emails, BBM was not affected.
FlightView is a new app on App World that lets users track flights, manage their travel plans, and stay on top of national delays at major airports. The app also gives you an overhead view of where the plane is located, just like the one they often show in-flight (pictured above).
Features overview:
Track flight in real-time on a map with radar weather overlay.
Capture all the details of travel with a notes function.
Get alerts that synchronize into the BlackBerry calendar – without even having it open.
Sal put up a pic of the Verizon BlackBerry Tour2 9650 aka the BlackBerry Essex and it looks just like you thought it would. The only thing new here is that the Tour now has a trackpad and WiFi. These leaked devices are almost always coming from ISVs who get them around 6 weeks before launch. Assuming Sal just got his device, and he got it from an ISV, we’ll be seeing this device around mid-January. This would coincide with a lot of the rumors we’ve been hearing. Expect this device to launch on the Sprint network as well.
UPDATE: Sorry about that. The App World link said free but as the comments point out, it’s a 14 Day trial with a $7.95/month subscription.
EzBillMaker is a new free app on App World that lets users create bills, quotes, expense reports and timesheets. Once created, it delivers the fully-formatted documents to any fax or email. EzBillMaker also gives the user’s customer the option to pay their bill with a credit card in PayPal’s secure environment. User data is backed up on a secure server that also provides ad-hoc reporting and data export facilities.
