Gwabbit is now available as 2 separate versions in App World. One, is a free version which employs an awkward marketing tactic of emailing the contact you added and telling them something like “Kyle just added you as a contact with Gwabbit. Download it here.” This type of marketing personally turns me off but Gwabbit have addressed this with Gwabbit Premium.
Gwabbit Premium is just slightly more expensive than the original Gwabbit product at $10.63 (previously $9.99). The premium version is the exact same as the free version, just without the viral marketing aspect. According to Gwabbit, “Gwabbees” can opt out of the alert service, which makes sense because if they won’t buy the first time, they probably won’t buy after consecutive alerts.

We have heard a lot in the past year about how BlackBerrys are revolutionizing the healthcare industry. Doctors and nurses with BlackBerrys are able to have timely access to a huge database of patient and medical information at their fingertips, making them more efficient on the job.
Allscripts have launched Allscripts Remote for BlackBerry which gives physicians remote access and control for Allscripts Electronic Health Records. The application was originally designed for iPhone, but I suspect there are far more health professionals using BlackBerry.

I’ve been hearing a lot about the GetFugu app that is now available for BlackBerry. The app lets you take a picture of a brand, whether it be a sign or logo, and then finds specials, deals and information about that brand. You can also use voice to communicate the brand. Just say the name of the product, company or an associated keyword, and GetFugu will find information about it. There are also GPS features such as being able to get deals and information for products in your vicinity.
There seems to be little compatibility with this app, so make sure to check if you device is on their list. While their site displays a Storm, I don’t believe it’s compatible.

A host of OS 5 leaks have recently hit the Internet and we now have download links for the Bold 9000, Curve 8520 and Curve 8900. If the links are broken, and you find another link, please comment so everyone can enjoy the latest OS. RIM promised us an OS 5 rollback before 2010 so I’m sure we’ll be seeing these official soon. Until then, be careful with a leaked OS.

Back at the BlackBerry Developer Conference, Loopt had some significant updates where they added more LBS features such as search powered by Pulse.
The latest update is that Loopt is now available for more devices such as the Bold 9700, Curve 8520 and 8530. Loopt have also told us they are working on a version for the Storm at the moment so hang tight.

Yesterday, Google began distributing QR code window stickers to the top searched 190,000 local businesses throughout the US. This is big news for making QR codes more popular in North America, as our friends in Japan are already benefiting from them, having implemented the technology on a massive scale.
So what QR code reader for BlackBerry is the best? Here are some of the QR code readers for BlackBerry that I’ve found and reviewed. If you know of others, comment them and let us know what you think.
Although I use the Bold 9700, I found most QR code readers weren’t updated to support OS 5. Therefore I’ve gone through them with the Bold 9000.
