RIM vaguely promised that we would be seeing OS 5 for older devices before 2010 and while they didn’t deliver in full, they have at least brought us OS 5 for the Bold 9000 very early in the year. This build comes as OS 5.0.0.411 and is courtesy of Bell Mobility. Remember to delete the vendor.xml file if you’re not with Bell.

The vendor.xml file can be found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader.

Download OS 5.0.0.411 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000.

    Did this on my at&t bold 9000 which isn't unlocked. Worked well. Wouldn't backup the device data but as long as you backup with desktop manager beforehand that shouldn't matter. Takes forever to startup after a reboot, but once it's started up, it runs silky smooth.

    I upgraded my Bold 9000 with AT&T to OS 5.0 and everything works great except that now it doesn't connect via wifi. I replaced it with a new Bold thinking that it was the phone and it still doing the same thing. The problem isn't my home network because all other devices connect to it. My BB Bold 9000 does not connect on any wifi after installing OS 5.0. I downgraded to 4.6 again and the minute that I did it, they wifi worked again. Please help! Thanks.

    I have my Bold 9000 unlocked right now but will soon be putting it on Telus. Any problems if i use either of these combinations?

    Just updated to the new OS on a Rogers locked Bold 9000. Everything checks out ok been using it for 2 weeks.
    Love the new SMS thread. And ability to customize the contacts ringtone,SMS,BBM ect for each contact.

    My update seemed to go fine, but now my phone is freezing. When I hit return key or menu key, letters show on the screen and the phone deosnt perform those functions. Any suggestions?

    HI all,

    I've downloaded the 5.0 firmware and have followed the instructions on this thread on how to to install it (delete the vendor.vml file etc.) When my application loader opens up, I am allowed to select the upgrade to the 5.0 from my current 4.6.0.303 firmware. After I hit next to start the download I get the message “no software update is required for your device”. Can anyone help shed some light on why this is happening, and what can I do to get around this?? Thanks!

    is wayyy easier than using the blackberry desktop. I would suggest using this.

    I'm on a Rogers Blackberry Bold 9000 and the update works. My Location is Toronto Ontario, I suggest anyone can do this update and should because this firmware is SO OLD and they have no excuse keeping you on firmware 4.6

    ok im STUCK!!!!!!!!!!! ive installed the new OS…deleted VENDOR…started APPLOADER…but when i click to ADD a new software…WHERE DO I FIND THE INSTALLED OS 5.0.0!!?!?!?!?!

    Did you notice, as I did, that the Firmware 5.0 on BB Bold 9000 streams live media using your sim and not WLAN? Anybody experienced this?

    I have just downloaded and installed OS 5 for my Bold 9000. Everything seems to work fine except for the clock. Two issues with the clock:
    1. I set the setting as when the phone is on charge, it will show digital clock but it doesn't happen. Nothing happen when I put the phone on charge
    2. I am unable to set alarm. Everytime I click on set alarm it will not responding and freeze
    I have to turn the mobile off and came with error blackberry clock rim not resonding

    Can anyone help. Thanks

    Nop it is not working. tells me same mesage. There are no BlackBerry Device Sofware udates available and I have version 4 so ur step by step unfortunatly did not work for me

    i have a question. Sorry I am really bad with tech stuff, but I installed the os onto my windows, but when I look in the rim folder, there is nothing there except blackberry desktop manager. where else could the apploader folder be?

    Thank you for this comment I have just done the same with my Bold 9000 and it works great. However my SMS message view has changed to my sent box instead of an inbox did anyone else have the same issue

    Perhaps try on a different computer if you can. Regardless, you should be able to get OS 5 through your official vendor by now, no?

    vendor? when i start the appploader it never shows 5.0 blabla in the list as a suggestion, where you see all the apps you have that will be restored. i see autoreboot and everything, except the update. weird as fuck. plus i live in sweden.
