blackberry-bold-9000

RIM vaguely promised that we would be seeing OS 5 for older devices before 2010 and while they didn’t deliver in full, they have at least brought us OS 5 for the Bold 9000 very early in the year. This build comes as OS 5.0.0.411 and is courtesy of Bell Mobility. Remember to delete the vendor.xml file if you’re not with Bell.

The vendor.xml file can be found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader.

Download OS 5.0.0.411 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000.

I had a b!tch of a time as well. Spent 3 hours trying to get it to update. Tried BBSAK, nothing. Then I checked for the latest version of BBDM, there was an update (501_b049_english) downloaded and installed it. When I launched, it found the 5.0 update and installed it automatically.

@Milz – I think the latest desktop manager stops the update from happening. That is the only thing that I have changed since updating my other Bold. Now I can’t get it to work either.

    hey…
I installed this software on two different phones already.
Here is how I did it.

Go to C: drive, program files(86), common files, research in motion, apploader, then delete vendor.xml.

then i installed the firmware.. chose language… bla..bla..bla..
(i connect my bold even during the installation but i din’t open the desktop manager)

In the end of installation, check the box saying “do you want to launch destop manager), then click finish.

it will open desktop manager, recognized your phone (that is already connected) and prompt a question saying “a new firmware found, do you want to upgrade?”

Click yes.. then.. you know the rest..

PS. if you already have the software installed, then remove the software first and then reinstall (making sure you delete the vendor.xml before reinstalling) and follow the same steps as a mention above.

Works for me twice.. hopefully will work for you too… good luck!!!!

    Hey,
I just posted the way I upgraded my phone. Have you tried it?
It works for me all the time.
Just make sure you delete the vendor.xml before you start installing the firmware.

Ok, i see alot of people having problems installing. First, anything newer than BB Desktop Manager 4.5 will check the web for software for your phone, which may stop your app loader from installing. If you use 4.5, it will not check the web and you will have no problem once you delete the VENDOR.XML file.
Now the problem I am having is with the Browser, once 5.0 is loaded. Inside the Browser config options it shows Media Net (AT&T) and Hotspot options, nothing is shown for Blackberry. I have resent my service books to the phone as I am a Blackberry Administrator for a wireless provider and still unable to get BB as an option. The Google email options work great and the SMS chat appearance is excellent. Text has never been so easy. At this point I am using Bolt as a go to Browser. But still i am waiting for the Company approved OS as some BB stuff is not working. I would imagine this is true for anyone who has bootleg the bell software.lol

    HHmmm…
I used BB desktop manager 5.0.
I installed the v.5.0.0.411 to 4 different phones now.
All i did is delete the vendor.xml
install the firmware (v.5.0.0.411) to my computer.
in the end of installation i check the box stating that i want to launch the bb desktop manager.
And when the bb desktop manager launch (with my phone connected to the computer), the bb desktop manager recognize the new firmware and prompt a question whether i want to update or not.
I choose yes, and go through the updating steps..
I never been able to update through loader.exe, it never showed me the newest firmware.
and when i wanted to update the other phone firmware, i remove the v.5.0.0411 from my computer, delete the vendor.xml and reinstalled the firmware the same way i did before.

here is how i delete the vendor.xml
go to My Computer, C: drive, program files (86), common program, research in motion, apploader, vendor.xml, right click then delete,

Oh, i’m with Rogers network by the way, not sure if that makes any difference with other network.

I have downloaded this but I don’t even have an Apploader folder nor a vendor.xml file. I’m running desktop 5.01 on Vista. I’ve uninstalled everything, then re-installed desktop manager and it still does not have this folder.

love this upgrade! updating is a breeze in blackberry desktop manager 5.0.1. you just have to connect first using the application loader, wait to find the app for upgrade, and even if it tells you that there is no available update on your unit, dont fret! then run the loader.exe on the C:program filescommon filesresearch in motionapploader, wait till it says “found blackberry usb device” then the rest is pretty easy after.

“do not forget to delete the vendor.xml”

faster response, quick loading, bug fixes, and much faster connectivity is expected on this update. battery life is somewhat improved, but not much. all in all,it is really a worthy update!

I have tried all of the above and all I get is errors…It basically does not connect to the DEVICE ROM?? I have tried everything as mentioned above. What else could it be? PLEEEEEEASE. I have been trying for 3 days now & still no luck. I HAVE A BOLD. I have also removed the SD card, to see if it makes any difference.
CONNECTS TO DEVICE – NO PROBLEM
BACK UP DEVICE DATA – NO PROBLEM
BACK UP THIRD PARTY APPS – NO PROBLEM
CONNECT TO DEVICE ROM —- DOES NOT CONNECT & COMES UP WITH AN ERROR [A:0X00000001] AND QUITS. Also says APPLICATION LOADER COULD NOT CONNECT TO YOUR DEVICE
It does not connect to the BOOT ROM.

I have tried all USB PORTS & still no luck. hOW AM I GOING TO GET THIS TO WORK?

dude… i downloaded the new OS 5.0 from link u published… i've uploaded it onto my pc… i backed up all my data and finally, deleted the vendor.xml…

now, i've connected my bold 9000 to upgrade it from the version 4.6 to the latest and the thing is, the progress went well for sometime and suddenly it gave me the message saying “ur bb device is not connected properly, please make sure ur device is securely connected…”
it is securely connected, i dont know what seems to be the problem… after that, i disconnected from my pc to try again and now the bb desktop manager cannot find the latest OS that i uploaded…

any solution for this weird problem ??

  • Joshua Merrimac

Works perfectly folks on a Rogers locked Blackberry Bold ( 9000) unit. Thank you!

  • Caz

mines not working at all! ive done EVERYTHING!!!! EVERYTHING and i cant get the 5.0 on my phone…and now im stuck with 4.6- :-(

  • npopson

Worked perfectly going from 4.6 on a locked Rogers Bold 9000.
    Easiest way:
    1. Install software
    2. Navigate to %Program Files(x86)/Common Files/Research in Motion/AppLoader, delete vendor.xml
    3. Plug your Bold in
    4. Run Loader.exe (same folder as vendor.xml)
All necessary apps and data will be backed up before it upgrades.
