Great Article!

This goes to show the two directions each platform is going for in terms of applications that exist in each ecosystem.

I find it interesting that many will support Themes at a cost of $6.99 or even $10CAN ... completely ridiculous (regardless of the time spent). This is not 1999 where this was the norm. There are a few handful of themes that are definately worth the $6-8 range but not many. That said the range of abilities themes are currently offered have exceeded my hopes from 3yrs ago.

I do believe that in the qwerty BB handheld design reference; we'll see more intellectual applications that focus more on data entry, thought process, command/turn-based control, and location.

I'd love to see themes to enable sounds with actions perfomed by users - not too unlike what is available on SonyEricsson feature phones.

I enjoyed this article, especially since I'm coming from corporate BB use, then to iPhone 3GS, and back again to BB for personal use.

Looking at the 2 lists actually gets me a little upset. If you compare the price of iPhone apps to the Blackberry apps we pay tons more. As usual we pay more for everything Blackberry, from service to accessories.

Plus I am surprise that the Top 10 BB Paid apps are what is listed because I only have 1 of those and have no need for any of the others and trying to see why everyone else seems to think they do, that they made it on the Top 5 purchased list?

Either way, thanks for the article

@Fabian - glad you liked it!

@Tom - I don't have numbers for you right now. These are really guarded industry secrets just like a site's web traffic. Nobody wants the competitor knowing how big or small they really are.

Here is I thought I had though: I would like to get a big pool of developers to anonymously divulge their app world, mobihand, and carrier sales/downloads. While we wouldn't know exactly what the app is, it would paint a really good picture of what the app economy is like in the various channels. I already have the numbers from a couple major publishers.
