The successful text answer service kgbkgb (542542), have announced their BlackBerry app kgb Answers. The app is available for BlackBerry devices such as the Curve 83xx, 8900, 8800, 9000, Tour and Storm 9500. The app is a free download, and with the BlackBerry app, answers are accompanied by maps, addresses and phone numbers, which can then be shared by SMS, email or Facebook. As with the SMS service, the first 3 questions are free, and subsequent answers are 99 cents.
Personally, I have never found a question I couldn’t answer with Google, but perhaps KGB Answers will tackle some of the more difficult questions like “what is the meaning of life?”. I’d pay 99 cents for that answer.
Engadget got their hands on the app and while it has some limited functionality at the moment, it’s still a very useful applicaiton. The app lets you check the charging status, lock and unlock the vehicle, as well as it collects data you may find useful such as time spent driving on electric vs gas. I’m looking forward to more BlackBerry apps that interact with our cars, or even our homes and offices (eg Schlage).
Bitstream have updated the Bolt browser and it’s now at version 1.62. The latest build is a little faster than before but there isn’t anything major to report. With RIM’s updated browser on the way, you have to wonder how companies like Bolt and Opera are going to survive in the BlackBerry space. While they have a competitive advantage being the first to market, they’ll always be lacking in that they will probably never get the deep integration needed for a good browser.
The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is up in video and it looks like a really nice form factor and spec improvement over its predecessor. As per the usual modern BlackBerry style, it has rounded edges and a trackpad. It’s good that whoever made the video put it up beside a 9700, because the designs seem very similar. While the video is a little blurry, you can tell that it has WiFi, and rumors are circulating that it’s 3G (I think you can see it by the signal meter).
RIM have just introduced the latest BlackBerry accessory, the BlackBerry Presenter. The Presenter is a compact, lightweight, accessory that lets you easily present PowerPoint files wirelessly from your BlackBerry (and 3rd party Bluetooth enabled devices).
We made a mistake posting the Boopsie app for CES 2010 and in fact the app you should be using is “coming soon” for Blackberry OS 5 devices. It is currently available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, so this may be of help to some BlackBerry users. With only 2 days left until CES, there is little time to launch the app but they also have a mobile site you can use at m.core-apps.com/2010ces.
