Skype and Verizon wireless made a great announcement at MWC 2010 about Skype coming to Verizon BlackBerrys in March. We have been waiting for ages for a Skype client for BlackBerry and since Verizon carries so many BlackBerry users, it made sense to go to them first. Even though the logic was sound, I can’t help but be annoyed at my own carrier for not being able to strike a similar deal.
With Skype mobile you’ll be able to:
- Make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype user around the globe on America’s most reliable wireless network.
- Call international phone numbers at competitive Skype Out calling rates.
- Send and receive instant messages to other Skype users.
- Remain always connected with the ability to see friends’ online presence.
It will be interesting to see what the billing arrangement will be. If I’m buying Skype credits, will I be able to allot some through my carrier bill? Or will this all have to be done through Skype? When it launches, Skype for BlackBerry will be available for the Blackberry Storm, Storm2, 8330, 8530, 8830 and Tour 9630.
