The Official BlackBerry Twitter App Impressions

Comments

First of all, I wanted to thank BlackBerry Cool for the chance to win a invitation code for “Twitter for BlackBerry” through Facebook! I am already getting good use out of the app and I thought I would share some of my thoughts about the app.

When I heard for the first time that RIM was working on a Twitter app my first reaction was negative. My thoughts were “leave it up to the third party developers to build Twitter applications.” After giving it some thought, and seeing some of the leaked photos that were circulating on the Internet, I started to change my mind. After all, RIM is the king of the “push” that we have all come to love! For the past few months I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the application only to be disappointed to hear that it was coming out in “Semi-Private Beta.” When I saw that BlackBerryCool was giving away two invites through their Facebook fan page, I quickly commented on the post and rest is history. I have used every twitter application that I know of at this time, and already this is one of my favorites.

BlackBerry Cool Roundup for the Week of February 8th

Comments

The biggest news this week is probably centered around the official BlackBerry Twitter client. RIM let a select group of bloggers and community members test out the app in its very first beta stages. The app has a long way to go and whoever designed the app should reconsider the layout as it’s very cramped. The Twitter client also doesn’t support basic elements like lists or multiple accounts, which is something the BlackBerry client really needs. That being said, should RIM even be in the consumer app business?

Foursquare for BlackBerry Updated with Friend Management

Comments

foursquare_friend_manager

Nan Palmero let me know that Foursquare for BlackBerry has been updated. The biggest update seems to be that you can now manage friends in the “More” tab. With this latest feature, you can add from pending friend requests or find friends using Twitter, names or phone numbers. I’ve also noticed that moving between screens uses a slideshow effect which is cool. Let us know if you notice any other new features.

Metalic BlackBerry Theme with Built-in Battery and Signal Alerts

HedoneDesign have a new theme out called Metalic. I’ve installed it and the icon design is really working for me. Personally, I’ve always loved the original OS 5 style icons best as they’re so easy to recognize, and this theme has a similar aesthetic.

Metalic features hidden icons, homescreen dimming (toggled with space and escape keys) and according to HedoneDesign, speed and longer battery life were the foundation of this new design. Other features include:

  • A low battery warning appears on the homescreen when your battery is below 20% capacity.
  • If there are signal problems, a warning signal appears on the homescreen.

This theme is a little on the pricey side but with the coupon code MHD20 you get 20% off. Check them out in the BlackBerry Cool Store.
