Checking-in is becoming a hot trend in the smartphone space these days with Foursquare, Yelp, Loopt and Gowalla all competing for users. Gowalla is a popular LBS app for iPhone that are making the move over to BlackBerry, perhaps in light of Foursquare’s recent success with the platform.
In an email sent to the BlackBerry Developer Community by Ian McDonald, Manager of the Developer Programs at RIM, it was announced that RIM will be creating a new program aimed at establishing a global network of Developer Groups. This program is going to be officially announced at the BlackBerry Developer Day at Mobile World Congress App Planet.
Members of the BlackBerry Developer Groups will get the opportunity to network, share info, receive regular platform and program updates from RIM, and have access to exclusive discounts for developer certification exams and select BlackBerry developer events and conferences. Part of the membership to the Developer Groups also includes monthly update conference calls with RIM and eligibility for rewards via the Developer Recognition Program. Continue reading this article
Storm Unlock is a new app from MMMOOO that works just like the Android unlock feature. In order to unlock your Storm, you have to trace a pattern on the screen. This a cool free BlackBerry app that is definitely worth trying out. Let us know what you think.
Fun Little Movies is a new addition to BlackBerry App World. The app is a portal for FLM clips that are short, funny and family friendly. Personally, I think you can get the same level of quality from YouTube. I would like to see this app go free, and use some creative advertising to support the cost. From what I’ve seen online, I’m just not sure if FLM is $2.99 funny.
