Upcoming Facebook 1.8 and 2.0 Updates Mostly Performance-Based

Comments

The Facebook app isn’t the greatest first party app for BlackBerry, but it’s definitely one of the hottest in terms of demand. With almost every single BlackBerry user on Facebook, a good Facebook app is crucial. The coming updates to Facebook, 1.8 and 2.0, will mostly address performance issues, but we haven’t seen much in the way of new features. Personally, I think this app needs to support Facebook Apps, and it will truly be the app we all want.

Upcoming features for Facebook 1.8 (coming May 2010) include:

  • Faster load times
  • Video uploading
  • Replacing BIS-E notifications with BlackBerry Push APIs

Facebook 2.0 (coming end of year) will feature:

  • User interface redesign
  • People Search

One of the downsides to RIM making an app is that updates come much slower than we would all like.

So let me get this straight.

We have to wait till “May” to get a “faster” facebook. Then we have to wait till the end of the year for a “redesigned” interface? So by the end of the year we'll have an app that still blows in comparison to the iPhone, webOS, and the mobile website.

Instead of spending their resources developing a DECENT app for the largest social networking site in the world, they are spending time, money, and resources developing a Twitter app that will not replace UberTwitter (or one of the other few dozen out there), and a LinkedIn app.

    This is great news. NOT.

LOL I agree I am anti Twitter person myself, I just don't see the point. Facebook is in dire need of a overhaul. They cannot even send notifications properly to it any more. Birthday reminders look like one jumbled up email or 1 run on long sentence. I question if all it is doing is intercepting emails sent directly to the BlackBerry PIN address.

RIM + Facebook = Big Time FAIL!

i think what blackberry should come out with the new facebook app is something that will beat the facebook app for iphone.
integrate chat into it, that will be something!
