Skype for BlackBerry Launches on Verizon

Comments

Skype for BlackBerry has launched on Verizon, being pushed to customers’ devices this morning. This official Skype client uses Verizon’s voice connection (and billing) to connect you to the Skype network. Even though it’s a hybrid, and not a full VOIP service, if your plan has the airtime minutes you can make free international Skype to Skype calls. Skype’s IM communications thankfully still go through as data.

Check out the Skype mobile page.

I may be misreading the article but you specifically say that airtime minutes are required to use this service. It may be true that you need a voice plan but you don't USE those minutes.

    From Skype's website:
    “Stop counting minutes
Skype-to-Skype, IM and global calls from Skype mobile™ don’t use your wireless plan minutes.”

A skype call to an International number of any kind will use your skype credit ( which you must have) and not your mobile airtime minutes. You must of course have a plan for mobile minutes but there will be no charges for these minutes against your mobile plan total
