Feature Details Leaked for Upcoming Official Twitter App

Comments

The Official BlackBerry Twitter app isn’t too far away and the beta reviews weren’t great. Many of the complaints about the app were focused on the fact that it provided very little that other Twitter clients didn’t provide. The ability to Tweet from the messages folder, at first seems innovative, but we get the same functionality from SocialScope. Should RIM be developing first party applications at all?

This is how my theme is supposed to look

This might not be news for anyone who is conscious of what OS they are running and have been tracking issues across each build, but more and more readers have written in asking me to expose an annoying theme bug. The above screenshot is a how my theme is supposed to look, with a black background and multi-color thread across the homescreen. It’s important that the background is black, because as you can see the icons are white. Before installing this theme, I was using the preloaded “snow mountain” wallpaper.

  • Set a recurring schedule for your phone to ask ‘Are you okay?’ If you don’t respond, Moby automatically notifies your contacts.

Should RIM Be Developing First Party Applications?

    Comments

Currently, RIM has developed a few “Add-on” applications such as Facebook and Myspace, with others currently in the works. RIM also have a huge internal application vault of unreleased apps they think might be core to the BlackBerry experience, and we may see these launched as well. The question I’d like to address in this editorial is “Should RIM Be Developing First Party Applications?” There are a few things to consider when answering this question such as:

    • Essential vs non-essential applications.
    • Can RIM do it better?
    • The developer ecosystem.

    Essential vs non-essential

The argument that RIM should develop applications that are integral to the BlackBerry experience is sound. For example, BlackBerry Messenger is probably best left in the hands of RIM, as the app needs to be continually updated over a life span of many years and should be insulated from the market against the need to monetize.
