Handmark let us know that they have launched The New York Daily News app that, like many of the other Handmark apps, puts all the New York Daily content in one place. Personally, I’m a little torn when it comes to apps like this. On the one hand, I enjoy using services like Viigo to amalgamate content rather than have a separate app for each content stream. I find this more efficient and I read too many news sources to have an individual app for each one. On the other hand, if there was one particular source I read more than others, I could see using an app to get more of a newspaper style experience.
The New York Daily News app is available at nydailynews.com/mobile.

There are a ton of conditions in that title, isn’t there? The BBC iPlayer is now available as a mobile site that you can only access over WiFi, with from what I’ve read only the 9700 and the Storm2. While trying to access the site over 3G on Rogers, I got an error saying that the content is only available over 3G in the UK on 3′s network. By using WiFi, this seems to solve the problem and I can watch full videos and small clips from the site. Personally, I think it’s too bad that the player didn’t come as a BlackBerry app, as we all know the browser is relatively slow.
Check out the BBC iPlayer for the 9700 and Storm2 from bbc.co.uk/mobile/bbapps/.

Tungle, the slick cloud based scheduling tool has just tweeted that they are looking for beta testers. To get in, email bb@tungle.com and include your Blackberry model and OS version.
For those of you not yet familiar with Tungle, it’s a great app that has proved indispensable to me and excels at solving the problem of cross-network scheduling of meetings. A typical scenario is this:
- I want to book a meeting with several people from 2 or more companies, which means I can’t see their calendars and they can’t see mine.
- So I either decide that I’m ‘feeling lucky’, a la Google, and then send out meeting invites for a specific date and time, or I’ll start playing the ‘this date works for me…how about you?’ game.
- Either method results in a series of wasted back and forth communications whose number is directly and exponentially tied to how many attendees will be in the meeting.
- Eventually, through luck and determination, and lots of wasted time and effort we finally arrive at a date and time that works for all.
Tungle solves this beautifully by allowing the other attendees to either accept the meeting invite or propose different times. It really shines when most (or all) of the attendees use Tungle as your Tungle calendar can sync with your other calendars (notably Outlook and Gmail with more to follow I’m sure) which means that you can very quickly find a specific time slot that works for everyone attending.
I’ve applied to the beta and will post a review after I get it and put it through it’s paces.

Purelab let us know that they have released their latest free theme called pure.executive. It’s rare that you come across such a well designed theme that’s free and so far I’m happy with it. The theme features 3 fixed icons, and 5 customizable icons. There are transitions and a couple shortcuts: space bar launches shortcutme or quicklaunch and ‘$’ launches SMS.
Download pure.executive OTA for the BlackBerry 8900, 9630 & 9700 on OS 5.
