What’s Cool in BlackBerry with BlackBerryCool and Untether.TV

Comments

Okay, so the name isn’t great, I know. Rob and I came up with it 2 seconds before the Skype call, but it’s the content that’s important. Here at BlackBerryCool we come across a lot of apps and we thought it would be fun to do a weekly “what’s cool” in BlackBerry. This week, a lot of the app news came from RIM, and what better time to elaborate on the editorial “Should RIM Be Developing First Party Applications?“.

This is the first in a series so forgive the low production value. If we get enough viewers, we’ll start filming in IMAX.

Breaking News: Viigo Have Been Acquired by RIM

It’s very timely that here at BlackBerryCool we’ve been talking about RIM’s strategy of “build vs buy” and today the news crosses the wire that Viigo have been acquired by RIM. According to their CEO Mark Ruddock:

Viigo is excited to announce that our company is now part of Research In Motion (RIM).

Our team has joined RIM’s global organization and will continue to bring our expertise in BlackBerry® application development and real-time content delivery to the BlackBerry platform. The Viigo for BlackBerry app will also continue to be available for download through BlackBerry App World™.

I’d like to personally thank the deal teams on both sides for their hard work and dedication over the past few months in bringing this transaction to a close.

To the Viigo Team – a very special thanks to all of you for helping to build such an exciting product, and a wonderful company. We’ve arrived at this point today because of you.

Stay tuned because we’ll be talking a lot about Build vs Buy with Rob Woodbridge for Untether.tv.

Premium FileBerry Theme from Temas with 20 Free Copies

Comments

Temas BlackBerry have a new theme called FileBerry that’s available for the 89XX, 9000, 96XX, and 9700 devices. The theme looks really decent and has a simple yellow/gray color scheme. I also really like the icon set as they’re very easily recognized and simple in design. This is a cool theme that features 6 icons in words (5 on the 9000) and 6 configurable icons.

Again, sorry about posting this link on the FAON theme, but the first 20 BlackBerryCool readers get a free copy of FileBerry with the coupon code FILECOOL.

Check out FileBerry in the BlackBerryCool Store.

FAON Theme by Hedone Design with Ring-Style Navigation

Comments

Hedone Design have a cool new theme out that is based on four predefined icons which gives you access to the most common applications: messages, calendar, phone and browser. The theme also features a small, two-line Today Preview. In addition to the four icons on the homescreen, you can set an additional 6 user-defined icons. These icons are located in a central ring which you navigate vertically. The battery and signal meters are conveniently located on either side of the central ring, making this theme very unique and efficient with screen real estate.

Check out the FAON theme in the BlackBerryCool Store.

UPDATE: Sorry guys, wrong coupon code. This one is for a different theme by Temas. Check it out for 20 free copies.
