There could be a few other things at work here as well. It could show the transition of feature phone users to the BlackBerry platform who are sticking with what's familiar. People also seem to like the carrier billing which is why RIM is moving to provide that option for their own App World.

I don't download ringtones either but this report shows that millions still do, and it also shows that there's more to consumer demand than just browsing and applications.

I don't understand buying ringtones either. So many people just don't know about side-loading and how to set an MP3 as a ringtone.

Still I think this is another case of RIM not wanting to compete with the carriers. I would actually like to see Amazon get themselves a BlackBerry music/movie store…
