To me, while unfortunate, the 10% seems minor compared to the details in the 'Application Revenue' section. Can someone explain this to me? Reading it seems to imply you owe RIM 30% of ANY revenue made from the app. For example, if an airline distributed an app on App World that eventually ended up with the end user purchasing a ticket, whether directly via the app, or via the airline's website as a result of a landing page, etc, then that airline would owe RIM 30% of the ticket cost, etc. This seems, well, crazy..

The extra money will certainly be going to the carriers, as they will ask for more than paypal did.

My guess is that most apps won't see any change in price. For most applications it is hard to increase the price only 10% or so, and regardless of the reason, it is hard to increase the price of the app without the user feeling cheated. In the end this means the developers getting paid less which is bad for everyone...

Possible upsides to this as well. First the carriers may now actually include appWorld when selling the devices, due to the fact that they are getting a portion of the money. Secondly this hopefully means that paid application will become available in many more countries...

To me, App World isn't a killer app without carrier billing. Carrier billing will finally make it convenient enough for users to take a chance on a few apps. It's no secret that "just bill me" shopping yields far more sales than account-based shopping.

Maybe the app-buying culture the iPhone enjoys will find it's way to the BlackBerry.

I wonder what is going to happen to all the non-App World sales channels when the carriers sign on and push App World?

I'm hoping there will still be some alternative markets to shop at rather than just one huge store. Hopefully, players like Mobihand will adopt a discount-based competition, making it a place where smart smartphone consumers go.

This is a game-changer_
