Nuance Launch Free Speech Dictation App Dragon for Email

Nuance’s Dragon dictation software is now available free in App World. Dragon for Email allows users to speak emails, regardless of whether they’re creating, replying or forwarding a message. Dragon for Email is integrated directly into your BlackBerry email, allowing you to switch between voice and text input interchangeably at any time to enter the contact name, subject line, or full message body.

This is a pretty awesome feature that doesn’t normally come free on BlackBerry. Most dictation software will cost you around $10, and Dragon for Email is only free for a limited time. Dragon for Email is now available for the BlackBerry Tour, Storm and Storm2 on Verizon; the Bold and Curve series on AT&T; and, the Curve and the BlackBerry Bold on T-Mobile.

    I hope that this sort of technology can eventually be applied to OS navigation and general functionality. These sorts of accessibility options would be great for people with disabilities.

    Not available for devices on Rogers Wireless network. Sucks.

    Downloaded and NOT working at all on Storm 2. I follow direction and all I get is voice dialing and seemingly nothing to do with choosing a contact to email…much less composing an email. Right now MyCaption.com is the best system out there but pricey for heavy users like me $17/month.

    Would love a good alternative. But so far th is dragonspeak for email is completely kaput :(

    Totally agree, went to get it and not available for BalckBerry in Canada. What a load of crap.

    This hands down seems like a VERY productive application > and another that seems “made for BlackBerry” from inception. Coming from the cellphone & computing space market leader in dictation, text prediction software (add-on or embedded) in both markets (not regions); I expect this to be very successful.

    Greetings. Anyone trying this should BACKUP first. I downloaded this over the air on my Verizon 9630 Tour, then ran the app, but the device stated there was a memory error. I did a reboot and my system was RUINED. I got a white death screen which stated “reload Software:552″.

    I did a battery pull and got the same error. I called Verizon and not only did they state that I could not wipe the system and start over due to this error, I had to order a new replacement phone. I know this software for BB DT Manager well, and have built 3 of my own computers, so I am at least in the top25% of “geeks or tech savvy” users. This has never happened to me before ( to have a new phone software actually ruin my operating system), and I use a LOT of software.

    So, luckily I have a 2 week old backup which I can restore once my new phone arrives.

    Being a doctor and on call this weekend (this occurred on Saturday morning), this puts me in a very difficult place. So, do not use this software unless you are willing to potentially pay a serious price. It was “free” but ended up costing me dearly, about $1000 of my own time before this is all over with. I have purchased several dragon and other nuance software packages before, but it will be a long time, if ever, before I buy or try another.
