Interview with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G Product Manager

WES is off to a great start with the announcement of two new BlackBerrys: the Pearl 3G and the Bold 9650. Inside BlackBerry sat down with the Pearl 3G Product Manager Joseph Gordon, to ask a few questions about the device.

The interview starts off with a CV of Joseph Gordon, but the meat of the interview is about the device itself. What were you trying to achieve for the next generation BlackBerry Pearl smartphone?

We wanted to make a revolutionary leap the same way we did with the original BlackBerry Pearl 8100 smartphone, which at the time was our most powerful BlackBerry smartphone despite the smaller size. The same is true with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone, as we have worked hard to pack all the power of the BlackBerry platform today in a compact package, with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G being the thinnest BlackBerry smartphone to date. We didn’t want to compromise on style, and we haven’t, as the BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone incorporates some of the elements and design of our premium product lines.

WES 2010: Hands-On With the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 “Traditional Keyboard”

BlackBerryCool is here at WES 2010 and Matt Cameron and I are representing the site. The first device I’ve used while here is the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, and I thought I would put together some impressions and pics for everyone.

With the BlackBerry Pearl 3G in my hands, the first thing I’ve noticed is that the delete key is in the bottom left corner, where I assumed the shift button was. This isn’t a major difference; just the first thing I noticed.

Nimbuzz Updates with Performance and Connection Improvements

Nimbuzz is a free IM app that features quite a few clients such as AIM, Google Talk, MSN, Skype as well as Facebook. Nimbuzz have updated their BlackBerry app and they have included some great performance and connection improvements. The app also has a lot of new language support. Here is a quick breakdown of the update:

Multilingual: Now in Arabic, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, German, Dutch, English, French, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish.
Connection improvement: For your convenience the client now automatically chooses the best connection for you.
Performance improvements: Now Nimbuzz is twice as fast after the first log in.

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center App for BlackBerry Available

WebEx has introduced a new online meeting application for BlackBerry, allowing users to join online meetings and view shared documents while on the go. The Cisco WebEx Meeting Center is a free download and it’s available directly from WebEx, or users will be prompted to download f they click on the meeting URL in an email or a calendar invitation. When a user clicks on a meeting URL, the WebEx audio conferencing system will call them back to join the meeting, and the visual portion of the meeting is automatically launched when they answer.

The WebEx Meeting Center app is available for the Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Storm 9550, Storm 9500, Curve 8900 and Tour 9630.
