What a creative way to get customers to use more SMS: give them a few email-like features.

I'm not surprised that people who sign up for a big text plan with a QWERTY feature phone use SMS as a way to access smartphone-like features, without needing to spring for a data plan. Even most mobile-compatible social networks like FaceBook, Twitter, and Foursquare all have SMS access.

I can't wait until everyone is off SMS and on to data-based IM. These short messages are just a few kilobytes and should be provided by free services as opposed to big operators charging through the nose.
