BlackBerry Bold 9800 Slider Caught on Video

Comments

We finally have video of the upcoming Bold slider but it’s really short and doesn’t show much in the way of detail. We’re hearing the Bold 9800 slider will not have SurePress, which is a blessing considering the Storm2′s SurePress has been known to be a little unreliable. Either way, a touchscreen QWERTY is going to be a really fun form factor and I think everyone is looking forward to trying out this device.

OS 6 Theme With Sliding Dock, Customizable Icons and Today Feature

After getting a preview of OS 6 at WES, BlackBerry users everywhere are hoping that their device will get the upgrade. The reality is that many of the older devices won’t be getting the update, and it’s possible that even newer devices such as the Storm2 won’t be OS 6 compatible. Thankfully theme designers such as WJD Designs can at least give users the look of 6 with these such as this.

This BlackBerry 6 theme features:

  • Today Feature (only on the Storm)
  • 24 Customizable Icons on Storm Devices (change application Icon order)
  • 18 Customizable Icons on Other (change application Icon order)
  • 3 Screen Slide Docks
  • Hidden Dock Feature for Full Screen wallpaper
  • Just over 1 MB in size
  • Minimal Lag and Multi Function
  • Custom Icons to mimic new OS 6 Icons

The BlackBerry OS 6 theme is available for OS 5 devices such as the 9500, 9600 and 9700.

BlackBerry Partners Fund Invests in Network as a Service Enabler Aepona

Comment

The BlackBerry Partners Fund have led a $10M investment in UK-based Aepona. The company provides a software engine that powers the “Network as a Service” (NaaS) business model for mobile operators. Aepona allows carriers to monetize network and billing assets to open Mobile Cloud revenue opportunities. Aepona will help carriers monetize the services they provide such as messaging and voice, allowing them re-assert themselves in the app value chain.

BlackBerryCool Roundup for Week of May 3rd

Comments

This was a decent week in the BlackBerry world as we’ve got a nice mix of new apps, leaks and news. Probably the hottest topic right now is the BlackBerry tablet or “BlackPad”. The tablet could be a huge success if RIM takes an enterprise approach, as it’s a market that no other smartphone can dominate in the way that RIM can. It would be interesting to see how the BlackBerry tablet form factor transforms the way large organizations do business. This week we also some more pictures of the upcoming BlackBerry slider and clamshell. The slider form factor looks really interesting, especially if it’s a touchscreen and QWERTY hybrid. The clamshell doesn’t seem to be a big hit with readers, as we get some really negative comments each time it’s mentioned. Hit the jump to get caught up on a week in BlackBerry.

Hertz RentACar launches rental car booking app

Comments

Hertz has launched a rental car booking app for BlackBerry. The app can use GPS to find the closest Hertz location, shop from their lot’s availability and save favorite locations.

The developers say that the next version will feature Storm support, the ability to edit your current reservation(s), multi-language support, WiFi and cell tower positioning to get positioning data even indoors.

I’m surprised at how many apps omit Storm support from their flagship launch. You would figure developing an accompanying iPhone app would allow you to use the iphone art assets for your Storm port.

I am however, glad to see developers getting curious about the more robust assisted GPS data that RIM is implementing. Imagine how much better all the GPS driven apps will with accurate indoor GPS data.

More Leaked Pics of the BlackBerry Slider and Clamshell

Comments

More Leaked pictures have surfaced of pre-production BlackBerry Smartphones. The clamshell and slider form-factors depicted in the less than perfect pics are experiments in the more popular consumer phones.

The leaked pics show what looks like a BlackBerry 6 home screen. The memory one device sports makes me think you’ll need a 2010 BlackBerry to run BlackBerry 6.

What does everyone think of the new OS and some of the new Shapes of BlackBerry?
