Waze GPS Social Game for Commuters Launches BlackBerry Beta

Comments

Waze is a GPS-based social network and game based on your commute. The goal is to make your daily commute more rapid, more intelligent and more fun.

The Waze map provides traffic information, turn-by-turn navigation and user-generated reports. It uses crowd-sourced user-generated reports to show you where the heavy traffic is, and how to circumvent it. Waze is also a fun discovery tool by way of a pac-man style token-collecting game.

The difference between Waze and other navigation software is the crowd-sourced data. When Waze detects upcoming traffic along your original route, it will change your route and try to find a proven and efficient shortcut.

New Qix-Style Game for BlackBerry Atom Trap

Comments

Atom Trap is a new game for BlackBerry similar to JezzBall or Qix. The game style is a popular format from pub gaming, and is a great distraction whenever the need to game should bite. The objective is simple: capture a percentage of the screen. To do this, you must move and rotate your cursor into position and fire your Photon Beams. If an atom comes into contact with your Photon Beam, the beam is broken and you have to try again. If you section off areas, and they don’t contain atoms, you gain that area and you’re one step closer to winning.

Features of Atom Trap include:

  • 50+ levels
  • 3 difficulties
  • Addictive game play
  • High scores

Check out Atom Trap in the BlackBerryCool Store.

Review: Civilization IV War of Two Cities for BlackBerry

Comment

Sid Meyer’s Civilization IV: War of Two Cities is a BlackBerry game published by Concrete Software, and developed by Oasys Mobile. I adore the Civilization series on PC; It is one of the series of games that I will buy for the rest of my life on launch day and binge until I launch a spaceship to Alpha Centauri (one of the winning conditions). From the title I knew it was going to be a mobile game based on a small part of the Civilization experience. If they even programmed 10% of the fun of PC Civilization, then the BlackBerry game is going to be a hit.

BMW and RIM Work to Get BlackBerry Email, Contacts and SMS on iDrive

Comment

I still have a bit of a WES-over and there’s a few cool tidbits from the show to be blogged such as BMW’s iDrive and BlackBerry integration. BlackBerry can now send emails and contacts to the BMW’s iDrive dash system, in order to give the user quick access to the messages in case something important is going down. Safety is of the utmost importance, and BMW have addressed this by not fully displaying the email on the dash. In order to access the email, the user must use text-to-speech. There is a great video of the BlackBerry iDrive system from PhoneScoop after the jump.
