We’ve had several users comment/write-in inquiring about a good diabetes app and recently iRecordit has launched their BlackBerry app for tracking blood sugar. iRecordit asks the user to input certain data about their blood sugar and general health, and allows the user access to the visual representation of that data on their BlackBerry or via email to their PC or health care provider. This visual representation allows you to have a daily view of your glucose levels.
What’s missing from apps such as iRecordit is Bluetooth integration with an insulin monitor. I would like to see iRecordit partner with some large healthcare institutions to bring this sort of functionality because automating and avoiding data input will make this app even better and more effective.

The native BlackBerry calendar is a decent application but it’s fairly bare-bones. Calendar Pro by SBSH seeks to improve on the native BlackBerry calendar application by introducing features such as information tabs and color coding. The app also allows you to shift between daily, weekly and monthly views more easily, allowing your schedule to be a little more rich and useful. Calendar Pro also features a dedicated tasks manager, recurring items engine, category coloring and icons and more.
Syncamatic is a new app that automatically syncs your address book, calendar, task-list and memo notes between your BlackBerry and your PC or Mac. The sync is performed wirelessly (OTA) and there is a free version that provides much of the same functionality except in the free version, sync is manual and in the premium version it’s automatic. Currently, only Outlook 2007 is supported, but you get automatic updates, reset synchronization and more.

In the above video, the user doesn’t touch the trackpad and instead relies on the touchscreen. This makes sense, because OS 6 seems very touchscreen-friendly, but it just makes you wonder what the use case for the trackpad is. It’s also good to see SurePress wasn’t in use here. While SurePress makes sense for typing, it does create for an awkward user experience, and I found it made the Storm2 experience a little buggy. Overall, this device looks like it still needs a little more time in the oven but it’s coming along nicely. Continue reading ‘Pictures and Video of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 Slider With OS 6′
SmrtGuard has just released version 2.52 of their personal protection app that now adds Twitter support to the Personal Guardian Feature. The Personal Guardian feature is a panic button that alerts specific contacts if you’re in trouble and delivers a message as well as your location. The feature will alert your contacts by email, SMS, phone call, and now Twitter.
BlackBerry is having some issues in Kuwait and Pakistan. In Kuwait, the Ministry of Interior is planning to stop BlackBerry Messenger. The issue is that BBM cannot be controlled by the Ministry of Communications or security authorities and hence, users of BlackBerry sets were taking advantage to spread rumors and call for strikes.
