Comments

New York Rollercoaster Rush is a two-button game from Digital Chocolate. In the game, your grandfather is an amusement park tycoon and you have to ride all of his 99 rollercoasters in order for you to be considered worthy enough to operate the fun family business. NY Rollercoaster Rush is the latest installment in Digital Chocolate’s popular rollercoaster series of games.

As with all Digital Chocolate games, the gameplay and controls are refreshingly simple. Before riding you get to examine the rollercoaster plans and take note of some of the major drops and loop-the-loops.

Highest Paid and Free Applications in BlackBerry App World

Comments

The latest Distimo report shows the highest ranked paid and free applications in BlackBerry App World, as well as other smartphone platforms such as Nokia’s Ovi, Google Android, Apple iPhone and Windows Mobile. In the May Distimo report, BlackBerry didn’t really have a presence in the “news and noteworthy” section. When it comes to applications, it seems themes are really dominating the lists. Themes are great for customizing your BlackBerry, but it would be good to see more rich applications in App World to demonstrate the power of the platform. Also, the utilities that come are in the top ranked lists seem as though they should be part of the OS and not third party apps. Applications such as QuickPull and MemoryBooster shouldn’t be something the user needs to download.

Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 Now Available for Purchase

Comments

The Verizon Bold 9650 is for sale online at $149.99 with a 2 year contract and a $100 online discount. In general, the Bold 9650 is a very solid QWERTY device with double the memory of other modern BlackBerrys (512MB). It’s not clear what devices will be getting an OS 6 upgrade, but if memory is any indication than the Bold 9650 is definitely a contender. Our fingers are crossed.

BlackBerry EMEA Outage Caused by European ISP

Comments

Are you in Europe and experiencing a BlackBerry outage? It seems that the BlackBerry outage in the EMEA was caused by a European ISP. The problem will be fixed by tomorrow night, between 03:00 and 07:00. The following is apparently a statement from RIM, but it’s a little strange in that the grammar is off and part of it doesn’t make sense. It’s possibly a translation.

As a result, the BlackBerry infrastructure will Remain in its current configuration until Further notice. Extensive service only after verification and testing have been completed Enterprise Traffic will be moved back onto the restored link. Rogers BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 Now Available with No Themes

Comment

Amazing. The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is now available on Rogers’ site and Theme Builder has not been updated yet. This means that people purchasing a Pearl 3G have a big fat (0) beside their Themes category which means they’ll also have over 30% less content in App World available for their device. The whole situation is like Starbucks launching a new store without any coffee available. It doesn’t make any sense no matter how you slice it.

See this editorial for a longer rant about Theme Builder not being ready for device launches.

The Pearl 3G from Rogers costs $49.99 on a 3 year contract. You can also get it for $424.99 sans commitment.

BlackBerry Curve 9300 Spotted: Update to the Curve 8520/8530

Comments

The next generation of the low-cost BlackBerry Curve 8520/8530 has surfaced: the BlackBerry Curve 9300. The BlackBerry Curve 9300 looks very similar to the 95XX series, with a familiar back case, media keys, rubberized quick keys and chicklet style keyboard. The 9300 also has a Curve 8900 style silver bezel around it which is a nice addition to the product line. According to the leak on CrackBerry, the 9300 adds 3G and the WiFi n standard to the 8500′s specs, while maintaining the 320×240 display.

What’s interesting about this device is the memory (only 256MB). We’ve been hearing a rumor that the 9700 won’t be OS 6 ready due to lack of memory, and it runs at 256MB as well. This suggests that the 9300 won’t be OS 6 capable, which, if true, is very disappointing. Only time will tell with this one.

More pics after the jump!
