RIM has launched the BlackBerry Curve 8910 in China in partnership with Digital China. We have seen lots of pics of the 8910 in the past with a trackpad, but a picture from the press event reveals the device with a trackball. Some weeks ago, we saw a spec sheet saying that trackball versus trackpad navigation was yet to be decided, and it seems they’ve gone with the trackball decision. It could be that a trackball lowers the price point, which is crucial for selling devices in a developing nation. Whatever the reason, it’s good to see BlackBerry hitting the Chinese market and it will be interesting to see how well they sell. There are a lot of gray market ripoffs in China, but the real deal is sure to be a success. Click through after the jump for more launch event and device pics courtesy of BerryTimes.cn as well as specs.

What BlackBerry OS 6 Means for Developers and Super Apps
These articles give you a very comprehensive look at what features to expect in OS 6 in terms of APIs as well as the new WebKit browser. Also very pertinent to developers: RIM recently soft-announced App World 2.0 which features carrier and credit card billing, as well as a host of improvements to make the whole experience easier to navigate. We’re expecting all developers to see a surge in downloads once App World begins to roll out preloaded.
Other than that, we’ve got a ton of content that came up this week including a very in-depth review of the latest BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100. We also have a series of exclusive World Cup 2010 themes you can download from us for free! Be sure to hit the jump and catch up on a week of news.

The original BlackBerry Pearl 8100 was a breakthrough device. It was the first BlackBerry to sport a camera as well as being the first trackball-controlled device. It was obvious upon its December 2006 release that RIM was taking aim at the Nokia feature phone market with a new breed of consumer-friendly devices.
Since then, the BlackBerry Pearl has been a regular character in the cast of top 10 stateside-sold smartphones. Usually priced at around $100, the BlackBerry Pearl form factor is a proven product line that, thanks to the Pearl 3G, can no longer be labeled entry-level.

The new BlackBerry WebKit browser looks really awesome. We saw it in action back at Mobile World Congress 2010 and a quick Acid3 test revealed exciting performance enhancements (100/100). In general, the new native browser will have faster page rendering and script processing with the help of the SunSpider benchmark suite and jQuery. For those who don’t know, jQuery is a JavaScript library that simplifies working with events, effects and Ajax functions.

We have seen a lot of BlackBerry 6 in action and it looks like a lot of visual improvements for the end user. But what about developers? Will OS 6 bring anything new to help them create rich and compelling apps? The answer is “yes”. OS 6 comes with some awesome new APIs for developers to leverage to make great apps for BlackBerry. Lets take a look at what OS 6 will allow you to do.
Graphics
The graphics in OS 6 are going to be a leap beyond OS 5. There are animation APIs in OS 6 that allow you to animate nearly everything and it’s all optimized natively. OS 6 comes with OpenGL ES 1.1 3D graphics for all devices with supporting hardware (CDMA). OpenGL ES 1.1 builds on the existing 1.0 support and allows for multitextures, automatic mipmap generation, improved rending and more. OS 6 will also come with OpenVG 1.1, which is the 2D equivalent of OpenGL.
