Free Rutter’s Farm Store Location Finder and Deal Alert App

Comments

Rutter’s Farm Store is pretty popular in Pennsylvania. The chain became famous when, in 1938, the company was fined by the government for having too much butterfat in its milk. What could have been bad publicity turned into good publicity when the public learned the company was selling milk with lots of what they wanted: delicious fat. Rutter’s Farm Store has a free app for BlackBerry that helps you locate stores and get alerts on new deals.

Research in Motion Annual General Meeting (AGM) Live Coverage

Comments

RIM will hold its AGM of shareholders today at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) at 6:30 PM ET. It should be an interesting meeting as a lot of shareholders will be asking what the company’s plan is considering the increased competition in the smartphone market, and how the company plans to remain competitive. If one had to guess how the meeting will go, it will likely be focused on the recent announcements and won’t go into much detail about the competition, if at all. RIM generally doesn’t like to comment on any other smartphone.

Here are some of the topics you can expect RIM to highlight:

App World 2.0 and the benefits of carrier billing and 5.0 preloads.
BlackBerry Protect
BlackBerry OS 6 from a developer perspective.
BlackBerry OS 6 from a consumer perspective.
The BlackBerry Bold 9650
The BlackBerry Pearl 3G

You can watch a live webcast of the event by logging on at their investors’ portal.
You can also join Financial Post Technology reporter Matt Hartley as he reports live from the RIM AGM.

We’ll also be writing articles if anything of interest is said at the event.

BlackBerry Tablet Rumored to Ship with Flash Support

Comment

There is a rumor that the BlackBerry tablet will not only have a 7″ touchscreen, front and back facing cameras, but will also come with Flash support. Recently, we have heard Adobe say Flash 10.1 has been made available to mobile operators, including RIM, and if a December launch date is true, this should give the company enough time to implement on the tablet. Sources close to the tablet say that it will also come with a hardware-based Flash accelerator.

A BlackBerry tablet with Flash could really help give the device a competitive advantage over other tablets on the market. Considering Flash is a key element in such a large amount of web media, it could make the tablet a very comfortable device for surfing the web.

WorldMate 4.0 for BlackBerry Introduces TripCatch Email Integration

Comments

WorldMate has gone version 4.0 and has added a new feature called TripCatch, an opt-in service that monitors a user’s BlackBerry inbox for travel confirmation emails and then automatically imports them into their WorldMate account. Skipping the manual step for users, TripCatch grabs confirmation for flights, hotels, rental cars and more, generating detailed trip itineraries. Ensuring privacy, TripCatch is certified with the Privacy Seal from TRUSTe so the only information accessed is explicitly allowed by the user.

With Tripcatch automation, confirmation emails for flights, hotels, rental cars and more generate detailed trip itineraries. The WorldMate service also includes flight alerts, calendar synchronization, and itinerary integration with mapping, navigation and LinkedIn contacts.

BlackBerry Messenger Traffic Soars During FIFA World Cup 2010

Comment

RIM’s PR company sent over some interesting facts regarding BlackBerry Messenger during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Over the past month, RIM saw a huge jump in traffic during significant events during the World Cup as fans shared their moments over BBM.

For example, during a thrilling World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain on Sunday at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, Spanish International and FC Barcelona Midfielder Andrés Iniesta scored the winning goal only three minutes before the end of extra-time, which as the lone goal of the match crowned Spain Champions of the tournament. At the time of this exciting goal, that was viewed around the world, BlackBerry Messenger traffic increased immediately by 280% as virtual communities of fans shared their reactions through BBM.

Leaked Beta of Facebook 1.8.0.31 Available for Download

UPDATE: Link broken. We’ll update if another becomes available.

Facebook for BlackBerry isn’t the best application out there but it’s certainly one of the most popular. When we last heard about Facebook 1.8, rumors had it that there would be the following features:

  • Faster load times
  • Video uploading
  • Replacing BIS-E notifications with BlackBerry Push APIs

Playing around with a leaked copy of version 1.8.0.31, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of “faster load times” and the video uploading isn’t available. Considering this is leaked software, it isn’t surprising but hopefully version 1.8 will come with more than just vague performance improvements.
