Xtreme Labs reaches 10 Million Downloads for BlackBerry-Exclusive Apps

Comment

Xtreme Labs let us know that they have recently hit a pretty awesome benchmark of 10 million downloads of their clients’ BlackBerry-exclusive apps. Some of these apps include Urbanspoon, NBA Gametime, and AccuWeather.com. The company has Elite status in RIM’s Alliance program and it helps them get technical, marketing and sales support. Xtreme Labs are working on a lot of iPad apps right now and hopefully they’ll be working on some BlackBerry Cobalt Tablet apps if possible.

IM+ All in One Messenger Updated with Themes and Improved Multichat

Comments

Shape Services let us know that they have updated IM+ All in One Messenger for BlackBerry to version 8.5. IM+ is one of the best aggregate IM clients that makes you wish RIM would build something similar natively. Currently, RIM has a variety of first party IM clients that are frustrating to use individually. Also, IM is an integral part of the device and communication, and first party use would make it free, while 3rd party developers have to pay a lot for the IM client license (which drives up the price significantly).

The latest version of IM+ features a completely new redesigned user interface with new themes, improved multichat for MSN and Skype, and convenient history review for all conversations.

You can download IM+ from the store for $39.95 (high price is due to quality and license use). It seems as though the update isn’t available in App World yet as the Desktop version reads 08.04 and the App World client reads version 7.0. Oh, App World…

WordPress for BlackBerry Updated to Version 1.3

Comments

It seems WordPress for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.3, but the update is only visible in App World. If you go to the desktop version, it still shows version 1.2.1 and the official Automattic, Inc blog hasn’t posted about the update yet. It’s hard to say what’s new in this update because there isn’t any information available, but we know that the WordPress for BlackBerry Beta 1.3 included the following:

  • Improvements on the Stats feature for WordPress.com blogs and self-hosted that are using the WordPress.com stats plugin added.
  • Add the possibility to load more comments
  • Add the possibility to load comments by status (all/spam/pendings)
  • Add the possibility to set the default video-size for VideoPress users
  • Add the formatting toolbar and WordCount features to the post/page write screen
  • Add In app bug reporting and feedback
  • Improvement on the photo resizing opt, a better jpeg encoder is now used

YouVersion Bible Reader 2.2 with New Features and Huge User Success

Comment

We haven’t mentioned YouVersion on BlackBerryCool in some time so I figured it was worth a post to share what has been going on with the app. YouVersion for BlackBerry is a Bible reader program that features a robust online database, reading plans, and sharing options. The app has had some great success with users including over 2 billion minutes of Scripture reading and over 650,000 mobile installations.

Managing the data for the over 40 different standards of English Bible translations and the 22 other languages is a vast undertaking. YouVersion has developed an ingenious system of keeping all the bible text on their servers and delivering your device only the content you want to read. This helps keep YouVersion a space-efficient app, weighing in at about 350k on my device.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Service Pack 2 Now Available for Download

Comments

BES admins can now download the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Service Pack 2 and take advantage of some cool new features such as additional metrics, reports and notifications to help monitor the system health as well as user self-service tools and pre-population of messages of up to 3000. Recently, we saw the leaked feature set, which was a pretty clear indication that SP2 was on the way.

BES 5.02 features single sign-on (SSO), initial support for separating business vs. personal content on the BlackBerry, new security self-service options for BlackBerry smartphone users, all new support for Microsoft Hyper-V for server virtualization, and much more.

Remember when we said RIM soft announced features to deal with corporate liable vs employee liable devices? Well it looks like this update is what they were talking about. Remote removal of corporate data from employee-owned devices is a new function built into BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.2 that is expected to be supported with an upcoming versions of the BlackBerry OS, allowing IT administrators to remove only corporate data from an employee-owned BlackBerry without affecting the employee’s personal information and applications. Additional features for keeping corporate content separate from personal content on employee-owned devices are expected later this year.
