Borders Launches Free eBook Store with Free Books Upon Download

Comments

How do you find reading a book on your BlackBerry? While it might not be all that great on a small screen, one could assume the eBook market will see a huge surge in activity once a BlackBerry Tablet is launched. We have heard the BlackBerry Cobalt Tablet will be more like a smartphone companion, making ideal for reading your eBooks (which are pretty easy to find for free on a BlackBerry due to the open nature of the platform).

The free Borders eBook Store is powered by Kobo, which also has its own eBook app for BlackBerry. While the app is available for download right now, it’s probably best to hold off because between July 9-11, anyone who downloads the free Borders app will get 5 free top-selling books. These free top-selling books include Frankenstein by Dean Koontz, One Shot by Lee Child, The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom and Master your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels.

Twitter for BlackBerry Coming Out of Beta with Additional Language Support

Comments

The official Twitter for BlackBerry app is coming out of Beta over the course of tonight and tomorrow. The app started in beta in April and it was a huge success. At the official Twitter conference, Chirp, we heard some interesting statistics that pertain to the official Twitter app:

  • 300K new Twitter users per day, 8% of daily signups are coming via the new Twitter for BlackBerry app.
  • 1.7% of tweets came from Twitter for BlackBerry during the beta. That’s about 850,000 tweets per day.

With the full launch of the application, we won’t see any major updates, but rather a lot of language support. The following languages will be supported:

• Portuguese EU
• Japanese
• Indonesian
• Russian

RIM’s Facebook Fans Worth $245 Million According to Syncapse

Comments

Syncapse is a company that specializes in social networking for brands and corporations and develops software called SocialTRAC. The software attempts to analyze purchasing habits and brand loyalties in order to determine social value. The company has said that the fans of BlackBerry on Facebook are valued at $245,214,042 (or $83.98 per user).

The idea that RIM’s 3M or so Facebook fans could be worth $245M seems far fetched. The company that is promoting these numbers has an obvious motive to inflate the value of social networks in order to promote the value of their product SocialTRAC. Also, the numbers don’t seem to add up. The official BlackBerry Facebook page has 1,149,891 users, and Syncapse is clearly including the 23 related pages for BlackBerry. These pages include all of the carriers and regions that would probably have duplicate users across several pages.
