It’s a bit of a slow week on BlackBerryCool due to the Canada Day and Independence Day long weekends but we have some cool apps and news nonetheless. From a news perspective, RIM soft announced a new feature to deal with corporate liable and employee liable devices. The soft announcement was incredibly vague and is likely hinting towards some BES feature that they weren’t ready to fully announce, but wanted to give everyone a heads up that they are on the case. Some other random rumors have hit the wire as well, including some specs about the upcoming LTE BlackBerry Storm3 and Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 including Facebook Chat.
Now that your holiday is over, be sure to hit the jump and catch up on everything you missed!

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip are concluding a nine day tour of Canada which took them to Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Toronto and RIM’s headquarters in Waterloo Ontario. Following her tour of Canada’s high tech hub with co-founder Mike Lazaridis, the Queen was presented with her own personalized, white, BlackBerry Bold 9700. The Bold 9700 came preloaded with a wallpaper of children from Queen Elizabeth Public School in Kitchener offering flowers. It’s rumored that the Queen isn’t a stranger to these devices, but Palace officials wouldn’t confirm whether a Royal BlackBerry already exists.
As the Queen was guided around RIM’s assembly floor, which is specially designed to guard against electrostatic shocks, the Queen and company wore white jackets like all the employees at the facility. According to RIM, this was the first time the media had been allowed on the RIM work floor. The whole experience was very reminiscent of back in 1878 when Queen Victoria met Alexander Graham Bell and tried his new invention: the telephone.

Reuters has a free BlackBerry app for viewing their picture galleries. Reuters has some really incredible pictures that are updated daily and the BlackBerry app does a good job of displaying them. There isn’t much to this app and generally the pictures are better viewed on a desktop, but if you’re looking for some eye candy while on the bus or in a line, this app is worth a try.
The Reuters Galleries app is available for the Bold 9000, 9700, Storm and Storm2.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo for BlackBerry is an adversarial puzzle game based on a popular coin-op arcade game. The game was developed by Capcom Mobile and it’s available on BlackBerry via Bplay.
In Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, you play heads up against an AI Puzzle Fighter character. The object of the game is to arrange falling gems by color in order to make larger rectangular gems. When detonated by a Crash Gem of similar color, every connected piece will explode sending counter gems to the opponent’s stack. Counter Gems count down every time a block is placed on the stack and then transform into a regular gem when the counter hits zero. The larger the gems you detonate, the bigger the drop of paralyzing counter gems on the opponents stack. It’s therefore important to mind the colors and build big in order to cripple your opponent.

If you look around the Facebook for BlackBerry application permissions you’ll find that the application asks for permission to Login to Facebook Chat. We have seen the leaked features for upcoming versions of Facebook for BlackBerry and there was no mention of Facebook Chat, meaning this sort of feature is more likely to come with Facebook 2.0.
Ideally, RIM would begin to consolidate these chat services under one large IM application. Perhaps it would make sense to make them all integrated into BlackBerry Messenger allowing you to log in to any chat service you want and manage your contacts accordingly. The current system of having them all as separate apps is tedious and lacks creativity.
