Foursquare for BlackBerry version 1.9.0 is now available and there are some pretty cool new features. One particularly great feature is the photo upload option. Now you can change/upload a profile photo via your BlackBerry. While it’s cool to upload a new profile picture, it would be ideal to see this service extended to venues. Foursquare is a great discovery tool for new restaurants and photo uploading will allow users to take pictures of menu items for others to see. Also, if a nightclub is a lot of fun, it would be cool to see a photo stream from people who are there.
Foursquare 1.9.0 also features:
- Sort Check-ins – Quickly sort your nearby check-ins by time (most recent check-in) or by distance (closest check-in).
- See Specials Nearby – Now you can see what venues feature specials when searching for what’s nearby.
- BlackBerry Maps Integration – From a venue details page, click on the Google map tile and automatically get launched into BlackBerry maps.
- Improved Battery Life – foursquare is always focused on battery performance and has made a few improvement. Expect even more improvements in the future.
- Improved Location Support – Additional improvements have been made to location, allowing for better location support when checking in.
- Small Tweaks & Fixes – foursquare is always listening to user feedback and making small fixes & tweaks along the way.

Facebook is an incredibly popular app for BlackBerry because it’s a first party app and it’s a social network that just surpassed half a billion users. The Facebook Berry theme lets you build your homescreen just like your Facebook page. To do so, all you have to do is run the theme and change the following:
Wallpaper = Avatar (change wallpaper in media settings)
Owner Name = Facebook Name (change in Options > Owner)
Information = Status (change in Options > Owner)
For the changes to take place, you have to switch themes, and then switch back to the Facebook Berry theme. It’s a little awkward but it’s still fun to build your Facebook homescreen. The icons used in this theme look great as well. Hopefully RIM will continue to develop themes such that they can take advantage of Facebook APIs and allow them to pull this data from the Facebook app or website.
The Facebook Berry theme is currently on sale for $3.99.

BlackBerry Messenger stress tests are really fun and RIM has conducted one of their own in the Beta Zone. The Jersey Shore’s Snooki, made famous for sucking on pickles and getting punched in the face, conducted her own BBM stress test by tweeting her PIN to her over 310,000 followers on Twitter. Apparently her BlackBerry didn’t survive and she was forced to get a new one.
Shouldn’t celebrities be able to exceed 310,000 contacts on BBM? That would make BBM a really interesting marketing tool.
